So grateful for a very straightforward approach that is exactly as detailed as needed but not overly cumbersome to read. The approach is devoid of candy/sticker rewards systems, pull-ups, or games, and basically approaches potty training in a way that makes sense to me. You're old enough to do this, this is where everyone goes to the bathroom when they grow up, and now we're doing it. It's been a lifeline and the read was pretty funny as well. The troubleshooting chapters have been invaluable and the cheat sheet at the end of the book for whichever parent doesn't read the whole book is really useful in creating a team where both parents are reasonably prepared to start without one parenting the other while also trying to train a child to use the potty. Most of what has been difficult about potty training is related to the realization that we definitely waited too long to potty train and are dealing with a very capable, highly resistant child. I love the author's very intelligent response to the idea that parents can just "wait until my child is ready," which is utter bullshit, in my opinion and hers. It will take work no matter when it's done and it can be much harder (as we're learning) when done at a later age. I would be completely crazy-brained right now without the instruction I received in this book. Highly recommend.

Helpful, easy to read. She spends a lot of time assuaging parental doubt from every angle, which helped me feel more confident. The information is easy to translate to others.

Ehhhhh okay overall. I don't love that the author relentlessly talked about how her method is basically the best out there. I know it works for lots of kids, but I think if this were universally true, everyone would use it for potty training.

Def agree with the other commenters talking about the heteronormativity, but that's pretty common in a lot of the parenting books I read.

Did I use this method with my daughter? Honestly, not fully. We kinda freestyled it, and I read this book about a week into it. I'll keep some tips in mind, but I've already done things "wrong" and my daughter is doing pretty well. I do think parents need to do what works best. She admits this in certain sections but definitely brags about her methods in others.

Overall, pretty decent.

Like other readers have stated, this book needs a massive edit. She could have passed this info on to us busy parents in a fraction of the words. She goes on a lot of tangents, many of which are unrelated. She has no business giving general parenting advice or nutrition advice in this book (I rolled my eyes so hard when she went on a pro-paleo diet tangent saying her toddler is “angelic” eating paleo 😒) Also it’s kind of ridiculous that she’s anti arbitrary rewards (ie: sticker charts) but pro arbitrary punishments (she recommends taking toys away when they’re having too many accidents). Rewards and punishments are 2 sides of the same coin. That’s psychology (especially child psychology) 101.
All that said, the actual potty training info is very helpful. I don’t plan to follow her method to the T but will take a lot of tips and info from her.

I haven't tried the method yet, so I can't really say how it works, but this might be the most sexist and condescending books I've ever read. The author tells men to get their wives drunk, strokes their egos, and gives them figurative gold stars for "helping", while continually talking down to and shaming women. I can't believe I paid money for this. I would give it 0 stars if I could.
