Ruth Ware is reliably good—complicated but not convoluted plots, strong female protagonists, no loose ends or narrative manipulation.

In Zero Days, Jack and Gabe are a married couple who test security for companies. Jack does the footwork while her husband Gabe handles the tech.

Tragedy strikes and Jack has to resolve the mystery.

The opening third drags. The narrator has an annoying habit of repeating info to the reader for emphasis. There’s a gory scene that feels like gore for gore’s sake. None of this spoils the story but it does feel like overkill.

I developed a completely wrong theory abt who was at fault for the central crime that fell apart. I like the kind of book that offers a few credible misdirections.

All in all, a fun read.

I really love how the narrator on this one read. I would read another book she narrated.

That said, maybe it was the writing style, I cannot put my finger on it, but I did not really enjoy this book. I almost didn’t finish. The MC was dramatic AF but then it was repetitive drama. The same phrases were used each time she pushed thru the pain. 🙃Maybe this was written to become a movie. I can see that. I will never pick this one up again, but I would give the author another chance.

What is it with Ruth Ware and hobbling her protagonists with gruesome injuries? Jack would otherwise have been such an impressive and inspiring heroine but she was so very unwell with her progressing infection. I get that it was a plot device that provided an additional countdown effect as her resources and strength slowly depleted with the progression of the police chase and the resolution of the mystery…but like, did there have to be so many descriptions of her oozing and pulpy wound?! I just…

Ruth Ware is one of my favorite authors. This novel dealt with stuff I know very little about but found myself unable to stop listening because I was absolutely riveted by the storyline.

Ruth Ware's thrillers are usually a delight, though I found this one tired and unfortunately predictable

Ruth Ware's Zero Days is my favorite of hers. A couple work together doing "pen tests" at various businesses to test their security systems, but after a job goes awry, Jack comes home to an absolute nightmare: her husband has been brutally murdered. Determined to prove her innocence and find her husband's killer, she goes on the run. I found the relationship between Jack and her sister to be particularly compelling. This book is a great thriller that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books for the advanced reader's copy in exchange for my honest review.

Decent suspenseful thriller. It was predictable but still provided a quick read.
