I reread this series as well. I also disliked this series less from the reread. I didn't connect or like the characters as well as I had with other rhs of other authors. This probably is an author specific thing. I didn't really feel the love either. The revenge plot was very fun... for the first two books. I felt that the last book was boring. Unfortunately, did not enjoy this trilogy this much. I think this is a sign that my tastes are changing and Elizabeth Dear is not for me.

Finished the first two books, got to the third and put it down, it’s been almost a year and still no interest in picking it back up even though I liked the first two.

Allllllllll of the stars ⭐✨

This was a fun turn-off-your-brain kind of book. I enjoyed the overall idea of the story and the banter, but the villains were crazy one dimensional loons. There was a lot of kidnapping.

Here were the things I liked!
  • Jolie's awesome supportive adoptive parents
  • Max, and that he stayed a loving brother
  • Mari, yay for the insta-loyal friend
  • Frankie
  • None of the main characters ever felt in real danger
  • That the first book was wholly from Jolie's point of view (it felt angstier to me)
  • Elizabeth Dear is one of the very few indie authors I've found who doesn't make pronoun case errors! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY

The things I didn't love so much were:
  • The writing often felt misogynistic, with the language and how the enemy women were described
  • On the other hand, all of the villains of both genders sort of followed the same mold, where they were delusional and trying to appeal to the Heirs way past when it made sense
  • There was a TON of telling instead of showing
  • Max's presence was cut down a lot after the first book
  • The guys' voices in their POV chapters were pretty samey
