Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

“All hail the Fire Queen.

Against all odds, Ruby has defeated the villainous Frost King and melted his throne of ice. But the bloodthirsty Minax that was trapped inside is now haunting her kingdom and everyone she loves. The answers to its demise may lie to the south in Sudesia, the land of the Firebloods, and a country that holds the secrets to Ruby’s powers and past…

Despite warnings from her beloved Arcus, Ruby accompanies a roguish Fireblood named Kai to Sudesia, where she must master her control of fire in a series of trials to gain the trust of the suspicious Fire Queen. Only then can she hope to access the knowledge that could defeat the rampaging Minax—which grows closer every moment. But as sparks fly in her moments alone with Kai, Ruby no longer knows whom to trust. The fates of two kingdoms are now in her hands.”

I have been so eager for this book since finishing Frostblood at the start of the year and honestly, it was worth the wait.

Fireblood continues along Ruby’s journey to destroy the minax, which has been wrecking havoc in Tempesia. Surprisingly, the answer to her prayers can be found in Sudesia, her mother’s homeland.

Fast-paced and action packed, this book kept you wanting more. I flew through this in 2 days, mainly because the characters are so engaging. I was weary of the arrival of Kai, as I am hugely opposed to love triangles but I was pleasantly surprised and ended up becoming attached to his flirtatious audacity. The interactions between these characters were powerful and well-written. I also loved the expansion of the world’s mythology, which we didn’t get in the first book.

I was taken back by the ending and again, I am disappointed that I have to wait for the sequel.

Well done Miss Blake, another great novel.

4 / 5*

SpoilerOkay, so like a month ago I read Frostblood and I instantly became obsessed with the series. Seriously, by the first page I was hooked. Fireblood continues where Frostblood ended and has it's own unique twists and turns. I'll even admit that I didn't half of it even coming. And now after reading this book I can't contain my excitement for the Nighblood. No, really I can't!!

Now I love Ruby. Absolutely freaking love her. However, in this book she just kind of felt "meh" to me. I get that she "loved" Arcus and then had a "crush" on Kai but there really wasn't a love triangle. It was more that there is actually something growing between Arcus and Ruby and Kai just kind of wanted to use Ruby to better himself (position wise).

And even though this book had some returning characters, like Arcus (who was a whiny bitch a lot), I feel like the new comers were better? I loved Kai and the Queen. Even though I thought she was evil the entire time...boy was I wrong. She was just a big bitch. Side note: I did like the twist that she was her aunt.

Then there was the whole throne issue thing. I don't know how many people actually believed that it was truly destroyed. Just seemed stupid because they all got butt hurt because they found out it was a lie.

It wasn't a bad book at all. The story was entertaining enough to keep me interested.
I just feel like the characters in the first book were better than when they were in the second book.

Ok so I never reviewed this so here is my late review. My reread of this book took a while because I was also reading other books, but this book was really good! I love this series so much!! It’s not as good as the first one, but I still really enjoyed it. I remember the first time I read this book in pretty sure I was at school in a silent study hall when I read about ruby leaving arch’s and their fight and I wanted to cry so bad. This time around since I know the ending it wasn’t so bad. Also I think I figured out that the scene that I thought was in the first book is actually probably in the first book.

Ok that wasn’t really a review but I love the characters and I love the world and this is a great fantasy trilogy and I’m glad I decided to reread it :)

Idk why I’m not giving it 5 stars, I guess I just wasn’t as invested as I was in the first one but whatever. I will probs change my rating later who knows lol

It was so much better than the first book, even though I doubted it at the beginning. The beginning felt too much like the first book but when it started to pick up? Oh my god I could not stop. Absolutely in love with the characters and I am completely agreeing with Elly Blake with the decision of killing a certain character iykyk.

Thanks to Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for giving me this book to review.

Fireblood is the second book in the Frostblood saga and while an enjoyable book I felt it was not as good as Frostblood. The story was fast paced and well written but was also predictable and has all of the clichés I would expect from middle book. I really was not a fan of the love triangle as it was not needed and was only there to add drama when Kai and Ruby could have just been good friends and the story would have been practically the same.

Ruby want to discover her potential and find a place she belongs but it is annoying that she is the special snowflake and Chosen One when her character isn’t that interesting. She has also learnt to think more before she acts but still lacks emotional control. We do not see as much of Arcus as I would have liked but he is still stubborn, protective and moody. While I was not a fan of the love triangle, I really liked Kai as he was charming, charismatic and flirty, and was not afraid to express his emotions and vulnerable side.

I felt the ending was a bit rushed but I am still looking forward to the next book Nightblood. I would recommend Fireblood to people who enjoyed the first book Frostblood.
