I thought this was an excellently plotted, planned, and executed take on the "What if Superman landed in the Soviet Union instead of small-town America?" They way they worked in so much of what we know of Superman and his history and family, and twisted it just enough to make it something plausible, new, and yet familiar. True to the Superman we know, yet also putting much we know about him on its head.

A spoiler question about something regarding Wonder Woman:
SpoilerI have to wonder, how did Wonder Woman recover after breaking her lasso like she did? She seemed pretty helpless for a while after that, then there was no clues that I noticed as to how she recovered.

Probably the best of the many "evil Superman" stories I've read

One of those books I'm very conflicted about. The concept of Superman in Soviet Russia was very intriguing to me but the concept that he got to turn into an evil totalitarian ruler besides his good intentions seems to be just American paranoia and stigma. There's enough justification for it but not enough exploration of his character. Sovuet Russia always had its share of supporters and detractors for its ideologies and their mistakes were always going to the extreme, so Superman believing in people who takes extreme measures just seemed prejudiced and further growing the bias. There were some quite interesting use of characters from all the mythos of the character but ultimately it just feels too forced. The ending twist of time travel and Luthor's descendants were really cringey for me.

I haven't read a lot of Superman stories, but this is the best of the ones I have read. Millar is fantastic as always. He transplants the whole Superman mythos to the Eastern Bloc, but keep the essence of him (and all of his friends and foes) intact. Really great!
