I love the premise of this book - we’re all good inside, behavior is a window into what’s going on inside of us, build connection first. I love that she shows how to be empathetic while also holding boundaries. Stuff that works for every relationship, not just parent/child.
The format of the book makes it really easy to read. She starts with general principles and then discusses specific behaviors (lying, shyness, perfectionism, etc.) with chapters that are 3-5 pages long so they are easy to reference back to when needed.
Really positive and practical. Definitely one of the best parenting books I’ve read.

This was the March selection for my nonfiction book club - Pearls of Wisdom - over on Fable.
The best parenting book I have ever read. Wish it had been around 27 years ago!!!

I feel so seen, both my inner child that needed some of these strategies growing up and as the parent I am trying to be. Dr. Becky does a fantastic job helping parents change habits with a lot of room for error and mistakes, and ultimately with a lot of grace. I think that’s what we want, right? As adults we want grace, compassion, and understanding when we mess up. It’s the same for kids. She shares relatable examples with applicable strategies. This is probably a book I will revisit many times in my parenting journey- even as my children become adults.
