Really surprised by the hype of this book. If youre really into evidence-based books, this isnt it, but its also nothing new. I think the way it is framed is relatable and non-academic which can be helpful to many people. I like being reminded that its never too late to apologize or make positive changes, and I also think this is not a book for crisis intervention.

Good Inside has become one of my favorite parenting books. It's exactly what I needed to read at the moment, living with a two-year-old who is currently dealing with very big emotions.

Dr. Becky Kennedy focuses on the importance of the connection between the parent and child. Over time, as that connection deepens and grows between parent and child, the child develops emotional regulation skills, and their behaviors correct themselves.

Dr. Becky reminds her readers that two things can be true: your child can be struggling and still be good inside. I love this mindset. When my toddler is yelling and crying because I won't allow her to do something dangerous, I remind myself that she is a good kid who is having a hard time. I can allow her to feel those feelings but be there with her so that she doesn't feel alone. Lately, she has been demanding hugs during a tantrum and begins to calm down quickly after.

This is true for parents as well. I'm still good inside even if I am having a hard time regulating my own emotions. It's easier to learn and become a better parent when I'm not spiraling down the guilt or shame road.

I loved Good Inside. I highly recommend reading this book if you're a parent with a child who is experiencing big emotions or if you have a hard time regulating your own.

I don't think any parenting book is one-size-fits-all, but I do believe the information is valuable and can be pieced together with other parenting styles to fit your family's specific needs.

DID NOT FINISH: 28%

This is actually quite good. I just didn’t get to finish it before it was due back. I did skim it to see what scripts could be helpful. I felt like I knew a lot of these concepts, but of course, implementing them in the heat of the moment is always hard.
