I do not yet have the child(ren) to test any of this, though I have worked in childcare (and am due with my own child in just a few weeks).
I will say that this book presents simplified ideas that are best applied to kids under 10. I imagine anyone struggling with older kids might need to figure out how to apply these techniques in ways that don't read as condescending.
I also think that because children aren't a monolith, there are some that these suggestions just won't help with, but they would definitely be a good place to start.
Overall, this is a great look at gentle parenting that sets the reader up to avoid the slippery slope into passive parenting.

Dr. Becky shares a framework built on connection and attachment to understand our children better and help with common childhood struggles. The idea that we address feelings first as the root of behaviors is both totally understandable and also so very different than other parenting advice out there.
I found the book to be very helpful in reframing childhood moments that can sometimes be hard. It was packed full of theory to understanding to application and strategies. Nothing was hard to understand and there was a lot of good reinforcement of her ideas throughout. Honestly, it was a bit of a challenge for me to start the book because of my own feelings of missing the mark as a parent. But, Dr Becky also helped me feel less ashamed over how I feel about parenting so far and gave so much hope for what the future could hold.
5 stars!
