This book was much better for me than book 2. The guys are chasing the bad guys as usual so there is a bit of action. I think you could probably read this as a standalone although you wouldn’t have all the characters’ history which I’m not a fan of so if you’re like me I’d read them in order.

The whole girlfriend angle with Dana was hard to read and she was not a likeable character. I’m not totally sure why we had that in here other than to finally push these two together.

I like Ford and Dana together although I would like to see more of them with each other. They were at each other’s throats for part of the book as they fought their attraction and the sexual tension was THICK. Once they get past that, they are all in and they are great together. It seems like Ford is the dominant one but sometimes Dana’s dominance comes shining through so I’m not sure. I love how sweet they are with each other when they’re alone and their guard is down. They make great work partners and life partners and I’m hoping in the next book we get more of them.

We got to see quick glances of the two previous couples and we get a preview of Brian’s story. Brian’s story should be pretty amazing…he has a story to tell and his love interest’s story might be just as good. I’m anxious to see how that turns out!

This book was provided by AE Via and read on behalf of Thorns & Ink.

Nothing like an action packed novel with tender love peppered throughout. This book is perfect for a hot steamy night. Much like what we are having here in St. Louis, MO. For this book, we are heading 8 hours south to Atlanta.

The writing is solid, the plot is full to the brim with car chases, fights, and with enough of the sexy bits to please. The characters are well developed and they maintain their depth. I have enjoyed this series and it makes for fine rereading. There are only a handful of contemporary books that I can say that about.

We are back with the Bounty Hunters, and as always they are in full swing. Ready to kick some bad guy ass. What can I say? I am a sucker for action. Let’s get some of the easy questions out of the way. Yes, Day and God make an appearance. I always like seeing old friends, even if it is briefly.

Dana. My sweet, goofy, shy Dana. He has some of the worst taste in women (there will be more about this later). He is a doll though. For me, he is the kind of character that fades in and out. I like him when I see him, and when he is not around, he fades to the background. I don’t think he means it. It is just part of his personality. His background is interesting compared to the rest of the group. While he doesn’t have post-secondary or a military background, he holds his own. It isn’t forced. I like the way he is. The development is good.
Dana is bisexual. The girlfriend (Jess) was a complete disaster. In fact she reminds me of a cousin. Whiney, high maintenance, sneaky, self-centered, greedy, snobby, etc. I could spend 30 minutes listing this woman’s (and my cousin’s personality flaws). On top of all of that, she was a bad lay. (I’d use a different word, but after all, I am a lady. She was not.) Oh, I forgot manipulative, that is one trait that is completely appalling. She was an albatross around Dana. Goodness. I was not sad to see her get what she deserved.

Dana has the biggest crush on Bradford (Ford) King. While I adore Ford, he is such a hard ass. I have never met a SEAL who wasn’t. Even the really old ones. He is the quintessential “daddy bear”. He is gruff, rough, tough, and above all, loving. Loyal and daring are as well. Those are qualities that, on occasion can be in short supply. He has it bad for Dana. Who wouldn’t though?

While I enjoyed reading about Dana and Ford, Brian (Ford’s brother) and Sway (Dana’s best friend) were so damn interesting. Brian has been a favorite since he was first introduced. I want to talk about him.  Selective mutism is very fascinating. His playful manner is intriguing. The fact that he goes from playful to soldier in an instant is completely swoon worthy. Sway is just a complete doll. She always includes a character that has a touch etherealness. This, I feel is where Ms. Via works her magic.

Ah, the next bit of magic is the end. It was so damn good. It was just what I enjoy in her books. Comradery, love, loyalty, and of course, the set-up. She gets me every time. Honestly I would not mind seeing this live action. Oh how I wish I could draw. I would settle for manga. This book is that much fun.

Ladies and gentlemen, if you are looking for action, love, tenderness, and big bear men. This is perfect. If you are looking for tall, dark, and mysterious; the side story is perfect. I am waiting with anticipation for the next installment.

I don’t think that this book was for me. I was thinking about a rating of 2.5 stars, but in the end decided to give it 3, because my reasons for not enjoying the story are totally subjective so it didn’t seem fair. In my review, I’ll mention what I didn’t like, but I’ll try to be as objective as I can so you can get an idea of what the book is about, and decide for yourself if it’s for you or not.

My biggest problem with this book was the fact that I couldn’t connect with the characters. I didn’t care what happened to them; I was just reading along without being invested in the story. I was really frustrated by that—and the fact that I still can’t figure out why this happened makes the situation worse.

It wasn’t the writing, because it was good. It wasn’t the plot, because it was interesting. Maybe the problem was the characters themselves, because they were quick to misunderstand and had some dramatic reactions. These guys played the hero all the time, always coming out on top and never losing to anyone. I’m not a fan of that. I want realer characters, with flaws and quirky behaviors. These guys were supposed to be badasses, but it didn’t feel natural. It seemed fake and like it took a lot of effort to come across as the bad boys they were supposed to be.

Besides the main couple, we also get a HEA for two side characters. I don’t think it was the beginning of a new book, because everything seemed resolved between them, but I could be wrong. From the moment that I met one of those two characters, I was wondering if he would be a future MC, but suddenly, we get his point-of-view in a few chapters, and we leave him paired off. I didn’t see it coming and I don’t know why it was included in this book.

The confrontation scene near the end didn’t do anything for me, and more than that, I couldn’t figure out what was happening or, to be precise, how everything was happening. Dana was supposed to observe everything going on during the operation, from the roof of a building, but he was able to practically see what was going on in the whole neighborhood. Normally when you’re on top of a building, you can see a couple of streets each direction but that’s it. So, exactly how tall was this building and how low where all the rest? Maybe I got it all wrong and had a different picture in my head than what was actually happening. Anyway, that’s just one of the things that bothered me in that scene.

There are a few M/F scenes in the book, as Dana has a girlfriend for about half the book. I didn’t have a problem with them, but I know some readers don’t like them in their M/M books, so I wanted to mention them.

Ford and Dana together were good, but they went through their fair share of misunderstandings and drama. I was glad when they finally got it together and started seeing each other.

Ford’s brother Brian was a very interesting character. I would have liked to get to know him better, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen. He seems like he has a lot of things to tell us about his past and his future, but we left him at a point where I’m not sure if he’s going to have a book of his own.

There are characters here from the other books in the series, but you should be fine even if you haven’t read their stories (talking from personal experience here). So, if the story seems interesting to you, don’t hesitate to read this since it’s the third book in a series. It can be read as a standalone without a problem.

I hope everyone who decides to read this enjoys it more than I did. I still have no idea what the issue was, so I’m encouraging everyone who liked the blurb to read a couple of other reviews and give this story a try.

Another great story in this series. Hard fought love wins in the end. There were a few editing problems but not enough to take away from the powerful love story.
