A charming, cozy read. But of mystery, bit of romance. I enjoyed it.
I loved Evvie Drake and really wanted to like this book, but no. Kinda boring and seriously a whole book about a duck?

Flying Solo has the same rom-com but adult tone as Linda Holmes’ first novel. Laurie, the almost 40 main character, has recently cancelled her wedding, and as she sorts the belongings of her recently deceased great-aunt and reconnects with her high school/college boyfriend, she reimagines what she wants out of a relationship. There is a little bit of a rom-com-like mystery and adventure added to the story. It was fun although everything about the mystery was fairly obvious; through the mystery Laurie learns about her great-aunt’s life and choices which inform her own decisions.
Ginger, Nick’s grandmother, is my favorite supporting character. There is also an Easter egg for readers of Holmes’ first novel.

This is the best book I’ve read in years. It’s making me rethink every other 5-star rating I’ve ever given out.
I'm surprised this book doesn't have a better rating. I didn't enjoy it as much as Evvie Drake but it was still a pretty solid 3.75 to 4 star read. I don't have a lot to say about it other than I enjoyed the story and my one real issue was the ending was tied up a little too nice and neat, considering the obstacles being faced. I hope Linda Holmes has more in store for us.
