This is not a thriller, as most have come to expect from Foley, but I think that's part of why I enjoyed it. I love her thrillers, but they have felt a little formulaic after having read so many. This was her first book, and I enjoyed the story. There was romance, history, and a bit of mystery as well.

I absolutely loved this story! Lucy Foley’s writing transports you to wherever she is writing about. Her descriptions of cities, towns, locations in general make them their own character in her books. I love how she writes multi-POV, it keeps everything interesting.

The story was too slow for my reading needs. It just wasn’t grabbing me. I hope to come back to it later.

Foley is a gifted writer and I generally enjoy her books; this just wasn’t my favorite. 2.5 stars.

A woman discovers her mother's past through art and letters and goes on a trip to discover more about her mom's birth mother. Takes place in 1980s and throughout WW2. Too long of a backstory in my opinion and wrapped rather quickly.

I decided to read this book because it was like $2 on kindle. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did because I do not love this authors other books (esp the Paris apartment). This book is different though. It immediately hooked me and I thought it told a beautiful story of love and loss throughout a lifetime. Very happy I stumbled upon this book!
