A big thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a quick but hard-hitting collection of poems. It is also the perfect example of intersectional feminism in the 21st century. The poems range in the sub-topics they explore. Some are political, some are personal, whilst others cast a critical eye on society and the perception of women across different countries and cultures.

This collection is important as it focuses on the different ways in which women fight and resist those who wish to stop us from reaching our full potential. Hence the title Women of Resistance. Each poem had a distinct voice and the different experiences came through powerfully as well.

Powerful and inspiring; a poetry collection you don't want to miss out on. You will become acquainted with some new writers you may not have discovered before as well. The type of poems and the rhythm also differ as well across the collection.

Highly recommend!

I had high hopes from this book. Though this book is an important literary piece, it was certainly not for me. I am always intrigued by the books which talk about the topics such as feminism, sexuality and gender identity. That's what motivated me to pick up this book too.

The idea behind this book is amazing. It talks about important topic. But poetry is subjective and though the poems for okay, I didn't enjoy them. Most of the poems were rather bland for my taste and were boring. Perhaps, I might not be able to grasp it fully even after I tried so hard. I found myself skipping through most of the pages.

This book wasn't for me, but it doesn't means that it's not for you. If this is something that interests you, then do pick it up.

Finally popped open this galley at a mostly timely time. Ladies, feeling defeated right now? Get this out and rage.

This is a short review. It's full of awesome poetry - the kind of stuff you want to stand up and read out loud and definitely the stuff I'm gonna pass around to all the women I know right now who are outraged. I'm giving it five stars because it makes me feel so good, even if the galley itself is an ABSOLUTE DISASTER. Yo, Netgalley, what a mess. I'm literally having to sort out some of these poems myself and hoping I get 'em right. I've never had a digital ARC that came through so messy.

You know what else that means, though? I'm gonna buy a copy. It's worth owning.

Reading poetry is all about finding a certain connection, a spark of relation between you and the writing. It wasn’t present for me; nevertheless, in response to trying to find that spark, I did not stop from reading this book. I traversed it from cover to cover but sadly nothing really connected with me in a level that would instigate for my giving this book a higher rating.

As much as this book is brilliant and beautiful, it did not resonate with me personally. Anthologies, especially poetry collections, are harder to echo with than your typical writing. It really does put the subject in subjective.

‘Women of Resistance: Poetry for a New Feminism’ is an engaging and poignant collection of poetry from diverse women. It is well-curated and both stories and writings are fantastic; however, they weren’t for me. I wanted to love and to connect with them and it just didn’t happen. It is more the way the poems were written than anything else.

I loved the diversity in this and there were some poems that I truly resonated with but overall I think the collection was just too Americanised for me to truly appreciate it. That's not a criticism of the poems but there was just too big of a disconnect between my own experiences and the ones explored.

The book was not even bad, my problem with it though was that sometimes i just didn’t get the point of the poem. This book was just not it for me and idk why.
