Super quick read. I enjoyed the characters and concept of this story. Very Noir! I was a little confused at the abrupt ending.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

Rose|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1375875010p2/69003.jpg], I had no idea this was going to be a series but I'm sure glad it is. This novella was so fun and interesting, and with that cliffhanger ending, I would be super depressed if there weren't more books coming in the future. There is plenty of intrigue with a dash of romance, and I really liked the switches between Ania and Jerome's viewpoints. I honestly suspected everyone until I figured out what was going on before the reveal, but the timing is right there at the end, and I am pretty sure this was on purpose by the authors. I already knew I loved Rose, but Gortner is a new author for me and the writing for the pair of them flowed seamlessly. I love when you can't tell a book has multiple authors, and they really nailed it with this collaboration. I also really enjoyed the setting of this novel, and who doesn't love when a book has Paris in it?

The audiobook is something I also highly recommend, and it is narrated by Eva Kaminsky and Chris Andrew Ciulla. They were the PERFECT pair to voice Ania and Jerome, and even though I thought Ciulla was a little awkward with his female voice, he was great for the rest of it. I really hope they both come back to narrate the rest of this series, and I was just incredibly happy there was an audiobook to begin with. The hint of mystery surrounding Jerome's past was interesting to unravel, and it was great to have that plus the jewelry heist. This is historical fiction at its finest and it has lots of action packed into less than 150 pages. The Steal left the perfect open ending for the next book, and if you like heist films or books this is a great, quick read to check out!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a short book read easily in a few hours. You are thrust right into the middle of the action.

Jerome works for an insurance company and is sent to the Cannes film festival because millions of dollars is jewels have been stolen. Jerome believes it is the work of a jewel thief named the Leopard.

There's a big gala and many stars (like Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn) were meant to wear pieces made specifically for them by Ania. Ania works for her father's company and if the jewels aren't recovered... The company will be in trouble and Jerome will be in trouble as well.

This was an interesting little caper. I can totally see this being a short film/independent film. It brought to mind as I read, old detective films from 50+ years ago. The ending makes me wonder a bit if the authors might collaborate for another book to explain Ania's motive at the end of this book.

A quick, enjoyable read set in France in 1957. Jerome Curtis is an insurance investigator and Ania Thorne is the director of Thorne & Company, a jewelry company. He is called to investigate when the jewels that are supposed to be for famous actresses are stolen.

It's part mystery and part romance. We get dual point of views, which I always enjoy. I didn't really feel the romance vibes from her at all. From him--yes...just not her.

When the unmasking of the thief is exposed in the end, I was left wanting more. It's unclear if there will be more to this series as it was left in a cliffhanger.

Thank you to Get Red PR Books and the authors for a gifted copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was a quick little mystery read! A good mix of historical fiction, mystery, and some romance, THE STEAL is just under 200 pages and is such an easy read. Perfect amount of information to set the scene and create the atmosphere. We got a good feel for the characters considering the small page count. It looks like this might be part of a series, so hopefully there is more on the way!

What is it about Paris and the 1950's that make plots automatically glamorous?

This was a fun, quick, and glitzy read. I enjoyed the aspects of the dual POV told between Ania and Jerome. Something classic about an ice queen and the edgy service men that make for a thrilling adventure especially with stolen diamonds involved.

The book played like a movie and even though it's short, you got a good hold on the characters personalities. I need to read more of side character, Luke because he was a delight.

Definitely look forward to part 2 to see how it all plays out!

At under 150 pages, The Steal is a novella. Going in, I knew that, but I did NOT know that it would have a cliffhanger ending and that The Steal is intended as the first book in a series. The next book will be The Bait, expected in January 2022. I was enjoying the story and figured the big ending was coming up quickly as I neared the end of the book. And then, boom. The book just ended!

Other than that sudden ending, I enjoyed the story and the characters. The male lead, Jerome, was more likable than the female lead, Ania, but both of them had depths of character. The setting in the late 1950s Europe and New York City seemed accurate, as well as the clothing described. The cameo appearances by celebrities added a bit of fun also.

The chapters alternated between being narrated by either Jerome or by Ania, and this was an effective technique.

Thank you to NetGalley and Blue Box Press/Author Buzz for the opportunity to read an advance readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I liked the story but I am not sure I would have picked it up knowing that there is another book (?) coming to continue the story next year.

Interesting novella, fun and entertaining.
I wasn't a fun of the end as I don't like cliffhanger but liked the story and the characters. I will read the next book in this series
Recommended.
