Enjoyed this historical romance. Both the history and romance were interesting and well written. Very fun!

This was a pretty easy read. It was very clever and there was always action. Not sure I loved it enough to read the rest of the series though. Also, I hate that the guy didn’t trust the girl enough to tell her his secrets even after they were in a relationship. That twist was pretty good though.

WOW this one throws in secret knives, sassy sexy ladies, special bars, slow burn, and scandalous. The set up for the rest of this series was just pure amazing- I can not wait for it all! These ladies better get that HEA. Lady Sesily is just badass and we get more and more of it during this book. Caleb you will hate then love then love some more and then just yell at him as well.

This was a wonderful HR! I can't wait to go back and read more of her past books so I know about the side characters I know where in this one!

A new series by Sarah MacLean is here and I couldn't be more thrilled.

Secily is living her life without restrictions in a very restricted world. She does what she wants and she isn't even one bit sorry about it. Society has already labeled her as a scandalous woman and she is very happy to obliged them.

Caleb is an American in London, he is a very successful businessman who avoids London at any cost but when his friend and bussiness partner, who is also Secily's sister, asks for help he can't refuse.

For him Secily is off limits but no matter how many time he tells himself that, he can't stay away from her. Her allure is drawing him close and he wants more.

I love how Secily was so unapologetically herself, working with her friends behind the scenes to bring justice.

Caleb is just a sweetheart, protective and also determined. There was a scene is particular when he takes care of Secily that I found swoon worthy.

The romance was filled with tension and I loved how there was a perfect balance in everything between them.

I found the plot very captivating, with secrets that were slowly revealed and added more layers and suspense to the story.

It's a historical romance with a modern twist.

I mostly liked it but the denouement went on forever

Bombshell is the first book in a the new Hell's Belles series.  The first book in this series seems to follow a side character previously seen in possibly another series I have not read.  But no worries on that front, you don't need to have read anything else to enjoy Sesily and her scandalous ways.  She isn't your typical HR heroine.

Sesily has been on the shelf for years and there is some great freedom to that.  She told Caleb a few years ago she thought he was the one and he promptly left to America for two years, for some mysterious reason.  In that time, Sesily has been busy.  She has a great crew of friends who have decided to help other women of the Ton not end up in horrible marriages or get out of them.  They aren't afraid of getting their hands a little dirty and each in the crew brings a different expertise.  Sesily is somewhat of a sexpot so she is often the temptation distraction and she plays the part well.

Caleb has a secret from his past looming and it is dangerous for him to be in London.  He has wanted Sesily since he first met her but if his enemy finds out he is alive or who the people he cares about are they will be in danger.  So he has tried to shield all the people he cares about from this and in so has only lived a half life.  No worries, Sesily is determined to find his secrets and protect him from them to get only man she has wanted.
"Men are ridiculous."
"For wanting to keep you safe?"
"For believing that you aren't the thing from which we are most in danger."

I really loved the female crew in this and how they banded together to help one another.  You have the widowed Duchess, the brains and money behind the operation.  There is the quirky scientist with some pretty dangerous experiments happening that could blow someone up accidently at anytime and no one would be surprised.  Then there is the wallflower who really is a fantastic spy and can listen in to get most peoples secrets without being noticed.  All of these women make up a really fun cast of characters that you can't wait to see what other trouble they can get into.

Caleb means well but sometimes that male protective streak runs a little too deep.  I was glad that he and Sesily eventually learned to work together to clear up the mess he is in. They make a great power couple.

I had a lot of fun with this book and I really enjoyed all the smart characters throughout the story and how they found unique ways to play their parts in society.

So I'm not going to go into all of the anachronism or fantastical elements of this, I don't read romance for reality and if you sign onto Goodreads you can see a million of those types of reviews.

I will say that reading this with no expectations and an open mind it is essentially Victorian era Charlie's Angels with Charlie being an extremely wealthy and woke Duchess. Their goal to bring down bad men in style. The premise was cute, the execution needed a little bit of help

Since I've only read 2 of Sarah Maclean's other books I can't be sure if she is just not good at introducing people or if all of her series are interconnected and I should already know them. So I can say the first 15% or so was a bit of an info dump and confusing. Once that was over and I had a general idea who these women were it was fun and silly and totally enjoyable. If you are an old school historical romance reader like myself you will see there's been a huge shift in the genre, inclusion of political statements, less blushing virgins and more sexually liberated heroines, etc. I am on the fence about where I stand in the debate sometimes it bothers me but in this particular case, once I turned off my critical eye I enjoyed myself
