Postcards from the Edge by Carrie Fisher

I liked the format of this and I liked Suzanne almost immediately, but I felt that the style of writing kept the reader deliberately at a distance from Suzanne's (and Alex's) emotions. Suzanne used humour and candour to deflect from any sincere feelings. This isn't necessarily a criticism, because I think that was deliberate and it was definitely interesting, but it did stop me from giving it 5 stars on a purely enjoyment level of things. I would have liked to see a crack--but maybe that in itself was the point, that even when you might see cracks in other people, this is Hollywood and things only go so far.

Good company for the damaged or fragile. Every bit as clever and honest as Ms. Fisher. Loved it. Can't wait to read more from her.

I MISS CARRIE FISHER SO MUCH!

In my continued readthrough of her canon, this has been one of my favorites. Darkly funny, good social commentary, and I love that it pretty much ends on this great note of female friendship and happiness?

Witty and real...or as real as Hollywood probably gets.

Apparently, Hollywood ego is just not my cuppa, and I really couldn't motivate myself to care much about an insecure actress struggling with self acceptance and being happy.

I will give credit to the acerbic, smartly funny wit. However, the last chapter was the best and that's a long journey to go to get some goodness.

Actress Suzanne Vale has just given her number to the man who pumped her stomach. Her life feels over. She enters rehab, keeping a journal all along the way, and is eventually released--free to live her life or start it over if she so chooses. Suzanne manages to date, to make a movie, and find some semblance of a normal life.

Carrie Fisher expertly takes readers on a narrative journey by blending different modes of storytelling that, under another author, could clash. However, with Fisher's clever pen, she blends these different modes and creates an intriguing, honest, and insightful story that draws from her real life.
