I LOVED this! I was definitely in the mood for a cozy read, and this was perfect. The ending was weirdly abrupt, but the story and characters are wonderful.

I really wanted to like this book more than I did. Too long, too many scattered plots, no real resolution on important parts, and a lot of characters.
This is a story that needed a stronger editor to trim the side plots that offered little. I feel like it ended on a cliffhanger for the main plot with a salvo tossed in to appease readers.
The writing itself was an easy flow. I could keep up with most; unfortunately I felt like a few view point scenes did little to further the actual story line. I don't think I'll continue the series.
Edit. After reading a few reviews discussing the implied homophobia, racial stereotyping, and general antagonism towards women... definitely lowering from 3 stars to 2. I had forgotten them in the longness of the book.

This book unfortunately wasn't for me. I don't think it was a bad book, I just didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much as I thought I would. Cosy fantasy, a snarky main character, magic, it's all the things I love. Unfortunately it just didn't mesh for me. I was bored through most of the book. I didn't really care about the characters. It felt like it went on forever and not much happened. I didn't even care for the romance because I didn't see any chemistry between Finley and Lady Janure. Overall just not for me.
