Over all good, I just found it super cheesy. But I’m not a romcom person so take what I say with a grain of salt
Charming!! Read this book for book club and had a great time with it! I liked both of the leads, and I appreciated the romance and growing banter - side characters were fun and contributed to the conflicts in interesting ways - the emphasis on mental health was really interesting but I think very representative of the current climate and not in a bad way - I tore through this in one day and enjoyed the epilogue on her website - that being said I’m not sure I’d reread, though I would recommend it to anyone interested in a charming romcom of a book. :)
I love a romance where the impediments to the relationship are mostly external and not entirely based on terrible communication skills, even if the premise is absurd. Also some of the most nuanced discussions about sexuality (especially asexuality) that I've read in fiction. The main characters were very sweet and very nerdy, but not in an over-the-top, pop culture references every 5 seconds way. Such a fun and nice binge and kind of what I needed to read after the depressing Fleishman is in Trouble. It was so close to being a 5 star book, but one of the main characters manages to avoid learning critical information in a way that is so unbelievable as to slightly mar the ending for me. Still, one of the best romcoms I've read.

“I don't think happily ever after is something that happens to you, Dev. I think it's something you choose to do for yourself.”
This was such a heartwarming read! I absolutely loved both Dev and Charlie’s characters—they were both so charming (hehe), and the portrayal of their anxiety and depression was very thoughtfully done. The romance was the perfect balance of tenderness and tension and had me rooting for their happily ever after the entire time. The dating show was a great setting, and all the supporting characters added really nice layers to the story (plus, the diversity!!!). I do think the story could have been a little shorter overall, as some of the plot points started to get a bit repetitive about 70% in (it felt like the author just really needed to fill in the remaining weeks of competition with *something*), but I did enjoy all the fluff, and the ending was perfect. 4.5 stars!

one off-hand (and might i add, completely IRRELEVANT AND UNNECESSARY) mention of tel aviv really was enough to put me off all of the enjoyment this book gave me. is it really that hard to avoid trojan-horsing zionism into your gay romcom?? thanks for reminding me why i never read a white author without a thorough background check. i was really enjoying the story and the characters up to that point and was looking forward to checking out other works by this author, but being pro-genocide is something i don't think anyone should be able to overlook.
the plot and premise were interesting, the concept had me hooked from the start. but the characters were honestly so confusing. why was charlie puking on people every two minutes? genuinely couldn't get past that. like once is whatever ok somewhat believable, but more than that and it's like, dude.
they were both a hot mess, and most of the racial diversity felt very namesake, especially dev's character. he could've been a white boy and the plot would've remained unchanged. i don't know, my review would've probably been more honest had the casual tel aviv mention not happened. i hate romances that are this apolitical in nature, especially when you have grown adults as characters.
