Beautiful book about an inspiring person! I wish the story had told a bit more about how José started the library. The back matter mentions people laughing at his idea, but José continuing anyway because he knew it was important-- would have loved to see that in the text!

Remarkable true story of a man with a vision, one he is making I to a reality. This would be a solid readaloud.

A very cool and inspiring picture book about a real life garbageman-turned-librarian. The story of José Alberto Gutiérrez, who collected books he found on his garbage truck route and turned them into a library for the children of his barrio, is framed by the story of a young boy named José who loves to visit that library and disappear into stories. Nice artwork and an author's note with more facts about JAG's life. He went on to create a foundation that provides books nationwide!

This is such a wonderful book. It is a beautiful ode to the incredible work Gutierrez has done and a beautiful ode to books and libraries themselves. The illustrations are fantastic, although I was already a big fan of the illustrator.

A new favourite that I would highly recommend!
