I enjoyed this book because I watched the Bollywood movie, 2 States last year and enjoyed the carefree rom-com. I would have given this book a 3/5 but the extra star is for the narrator's random comments which he thinks but then has to justify quickly. I connected with that because we all have thoughts that we realize need some clarification to the public. I've never read this aspect of a character before and enjoyed it. I am Bengali, not Punjabi or Tamilian but I could connect with the regional bias that perhaps everyone inhibits.
The writer really has a sense of humour. Sarcasm is kind of his second language which I love. The story gets a little sad at a few places but the ending is amazing and happy and humorous of course.

A good overview of how marriages work currently in India. The boy's family infuriated me, so clearly the author wrote it well to induce that kind of feeling. I don't know why, if the author says it's the story of his marriage, he chose to change the main character's name from Chetan to Krish.

Let me put this as mildly as possible.
CBag had a fight with this wife, and he wanted to tell her how much he loves her. He goes ahead and writes the longest love letter he could write to this wife, finds a dumb publisher to publish it, and lo... we all pay for that piece of extreme-mediocrity and read it, and some of us even take time to rate it.
Sigh. The plight of Indian literature in the 2000s!!!

A pleasant surprise. *Unlike* most Bollywood movies, I rate books by Indian authors on the same scale as I do all other literature, and I have to admit - I enjoyed 2 States, for the most part. (Some parts, in true desi "ishtyle," were a bit over-dramatic.) Started off a bit slow, but the moment the Punjabi mother entered the story, I was hooked and laughing out loud (literally).
the movie is better and only because it has music
