So Thirsty is a vampire novel, but it is so much more. Harrison provides a fresh take on the vampire genre, but at the heart of this novel is the friendship between Sloane and her lifelong friend Naomi, as a fun night out turns in horror.

This book examines life and friendship and how one’s desires shift and change through life. Most importantly, it is about making changes for yourself and taking ownership of your life.

Harrison’s strong writing and witty humor plays well with the dark themes at play in this book. If you enjoyed her previous novel, Black Sheep, I think you’ll enjoy this one as well.

This one gets a strong recommendation from me, especially if you are looking for a fast, first-person, plot/character hybrid with a fun twist on the vampire genre.

Thank you to Berkley and NetGalley for providing me with an eARC!

This was my first Rachel Harrison book and I'm a little disappointed by it. I have heard so much about her books and have had them recommended over and over again, and it just didn't hit like I expected.

The tone of the book was inconsistent and strange. It went from bad dad joke vibes ("He wasn't religious, if you didn't count Sunday worship of the Buffalo Bills," har-har-har), to Naomi being taken from behind in a full blown orgy. I didn't know what kind of book I was reading.

The vampire stuff was pretty cheesy. A basic trope: old lonely vampire man falls in love with a beautiful young human woman and changes her. I enjoyed that the end was about Sloane's friendship with Naomi, but it still focused a lot on Hottie Henry.

The shallow exploration of the morality of the existence of blood sucking vampires was baffling. Murder, kidnapping, and torture all have their place if you live 500 years and can put it into context, I guess. There was so much focus on Sloane's struggle with her new morality that the end resolution was confusing and didn't feel like any kind of conclusion to her thoughts and feelings on the matter.

I guess I'm willing to give the author another shot, but overall this book wasn't it for me.

good fun read!! thought it might be a trashy basic vampire novel but it was actually really good. the characters seemed very real and relatable. i like the main crew. couldn’t put it down and was thinking about it when i wasn’t reading it.
