This book was so astoundingly nothing. At best mildly entertaining but for all the wrong reasons because the main character was so insufferable.

Sloan is 35, turning 36 and is obsessed with death and how miserable her life is. No one ever sees her, her fiancé (husband? I forget) is cheating on her at least thrice, and everything is so utterly empty and boring. Babe, maybe your fiancé or husband is cheating on you because you’re the literal worst. She’s like Bella Swan but instead of being an annoying moody teenage girl, she’s a full grown adult woman so it’s WORSE.

It’s her birthday weekend and Sloan and her toxic bff Naomi act like a couple of college girls. They meet a group of mysterious strangers and a little over a hundred pages in and we get what I think is supposed to be the plot, but it doesn’t even vaguely resemble a plot because all that happens is the drinking of blood.

I’m not exaggerating. Sloan and “Nay” bee bop around, alternating between attacking perfect strangers and then reacting to attacking strangers. There’s ZERO character growth/development. Maybe -100 character growth/development because this massive change happens to them but it doesn’t change THEM in the least.

This book sucks, pun intended.

This was so boring to me, and all of the characters were annoying, but I’ve also read worse.

We were almost 40% of the way into the book before we got vampires!! It felt really slow as a result, and Sloane's reaction to their predicament was nonsensical. She was very unlikeable and I honestly couldn't see what the vampire saw in her. Her obsession with aging and her unhealthy relationships with both her cheating husband and her best friend were questionable. While a lot of interesting themes were touched on, I feel like none of them were fleshed out and Sloane distracted from the purpose of the book. While we have some growth at the end, it was abrupt and didn't really match the rest of the book. There were a couple fun, girl power moments, as well as some fun horrific moments, but overall I was disappointed with this one.
