I had high hopes for this after Such Sharp Teeth, but the main character(s) didn’t have me rooting for them and it took WAY too long to get the book set up
i.e., I had to wait 90 MINUTES before we met the vampires

I think Rachel had some really interesting threads about grieving your youth, the pressures of society, co-dependency, toxic romantic AND friend relationships, the inertia of life, allowing yourself to take up space and put yourself first that were really close to landing well, but the main moral quandaries of the book may have gotten in the way.

Overall, this book wasn’t really about sexy vampires, they were generally…gross? I do appreciate the feminist themes in this novel and the exploration of Sloane’s through processes was the most interesting thing to me. Unfortunately, the story was horrifically rushed at the end 🙁 Would’ve really loved to have seen them deal with the other fallout of their former lives rather than a Thelma & Louise-type ending. Sloane and Naomi seemed more like frenemies rather than friends, which really made me dislike their dynamic.

So Thirsty is my second book of Rachel Harrison's and think I want to become a completist of her works!

I would describe this one as Thelma & Louise but with vampires. It covers themes like aging and society's beauty standards for women, female friendship, and self-discovery.

We follow two very different best friends as they navigate the immortal consequences of one very important decision, and how this just might the push they needed to really live and enjoy life.

Add to your tbr if you love a good female friendship story with vampires!

She's just one of those authors I love so much now. The writing is so relatable and she builds tension in an interesting way. This one definitely stressed me out there at the end
