Book club pick - I really disliked this book but it feels unfair to give a poor star rating to a book I never would've otherwise picked up. Read if you like gross out books, skip if you don't.

Love this author. Not my favorite of hers. The vampires were very boring to me and the love story could have been expanded. I did like it overall.

i went into this novel knowing it was horror and vampires. little did i know i would get the horror of growing old or the horror of wasting time bc of fear or living so fast bc of fear. i really enjoyed the heavy focus on the best friendship of solane and naomi. nothing gets me more than a love story that’s about those we chose over and over again like friends that mean more than blood. i throughly enjoyed this!

An interesting premise, some really lovely writing. I enjoyed it and read through it quite quickly.
Ultimately, it feels significantly more shallow than it thinks it is. As though you can feel the writer trying to make a profound point, but falling well short. I remember having a similar reaction to Cackle.

Spoiler
In both stories, the characters are pretty horrible people who don't really seem to accept their horribleness, and the author seems to want to present their choices as actually fine, actually acceptable, when really they are.... awful. Also, a 600yo vampire is drawn to Sloan - a mid-30s sadsack who doesn't even particularly care that she's married to a serial cheater and seems to have no hobbies, friends, passions, etc other than enjoying listening to podcasts about disasters that he.... probably already knows about, see above re being 600yo? It's very Mary Sue.

Picked this book up on a whim, first time reading this author so I didn't really know what I was getting into. So Thirsty is an introspective read about aging, the dangers of settling, female friendship and finding balance between caution and living your life. The horror elements were tame but written well and I found the gaggle of European vamps very likable. Sloane and Naomi were ... complicated. I really enjoyed the exploration of how friends can change over time, bring out the best and the worst in us etc. Sloane's fears around aging and her worth (particularly in the beginning) felt so genuine and relatable. But both women also kept making the most self sabotaging decisions over and over again to the point of frustration.I'm going to straight up admit I thought this was going to be a lesbian romance were lifelong friends realize they need to ditch their shitty husbands and ride off into the sunset. Instead the cheating husband gets a little slap on the wrist before Sloane falls head over heals for a man she just met. The ending felt unsatisfying and rushed, not sure if it served the point the book was trying to make.
