I’m surprised this book is rated as high as it is. Maybe I was ruined because someone wrote that it was a feminist vampire book. It was fine. I liked the initial story, but it was very blah. Not enough of a romance. Not enough of a personal story. Not enough of anything to really write home about, except it was short
adventurous

This is a fun book, I am much more of a Naomi than a Sloane though so her decisions and inner monologue kind of drove me crazy sometimes.

After her husband gifts her a weekend getaway with her best friend, things go awry at a party full of mysterious strangers. Sloane must learn to live her life to the fullest, now that she has all the time in the world to do it.

This was so much fun! Sloane and Naomi were polar opposites, but both still really likeable. I think there was a really good balance of humour and horror, and a really good commentary on women's experiences with beauty standards, fear of aging, and feeling like a passenger in your own life.

I really liked the dynamic of Sloane and Naomi's friendship as well, and I think it's really great that this story gave more focus to that relationship than the romance.

So Thirsty was my first Rachel Harrison book and despite a rocky start, it still convinced me enough to read more by her.

I have mixed feelings about the friendship portrayed here. I loved how the relationship between the main character and her best friend represented what it feels like to have such an important person in your life, but at the same time, I hated her best friend. She was reckless and selfish, putting her and her best friend’s lives in danger every few chapters. I wasn’t a big fan of the main character either.

The horror elements were lacking, but it was perfectly balanced with the vampire lore which I found very interesting. The plot and pacing were my biggest issues. While I loved the idea of following the journey of newly made vampires, the plot was all over the place. It took a good third of the book to get into the meat of the story, and even then, it barely felt like there was any structure.
