I really enjoy memoirs, even if they are about someone I know nothing about. I have heard the name Madison Beer and knew she had something to do with music but that was about it. However, I saw the audiobook available on Libby and it was pretty short so I checked it out! I appreciate the vulnerability Beer shows as she opens up about her experiences with social media bullying and experiencing something that we have seen happen time and time again to women, especially teenage girls. When she describes her experiences and how she felt in those moments, it brought me back to being a teenage girl and how everything felt, even though my experiences certainly weren't to the level of Beer's. Overall I enjoyed this book. I think if it had been longer it would have been too much, but this length worked well for me. I do remember there being some things I didn't quite like but honestly, I can't even remember as that was two months ago and it wasn't anything major. Plus, it's a memoir! It's her experience and I respect that.
If you are a fan of Madison Beer or if you are just somebody who loves memoirs, I would recommend this for a quick read. It's not a book I think about often but I enjoyed the reading experience and I left feeling like I learned a little bit more about another human being.

memoirs can be difficult to rate and this is one that i chose not to give a star rating to. the story itself was incredibly brave, vulnerable, and passionate — i love madison’s music but i had no idea the extent of things that she’s experienced over the last ~decade. reading about these things in her own words was really poignant, and hearing about her determination to persevere was inspiring. however, i couldn’t help note how often the book felt repetitive — a comment would be made only to be made again, but phrased a little differently, shortly later. the book is white short as it is which meant this stuck out even more to me, and i’m wondering if it was fluffed up a little bit to hit a specific length.
if i were to assign a rating based on the emotional journey of the memoir, it would be highly rated, but if i were to rate it objectively as a piece of literature, that would drop, hence the lack of star rating. i’ve all in all, i did enjoy this book, and i’m excited to listen to her new album with this context!

finished in one day. i love how she added in questions from fans and journal prompts to connect more deeply with her audience, and how she highlighted that sensitivity is a strength rather than a weakness. madison beer is incredibly grounded and down to earth, in spite of the fact that she’s been in the spotlight since she was only 12.
