This autobiography is written in the choose your own adventure format, which I thought was really creative. However, I listened to the audiobook and it was difficult to follow, imo. I suspect I would have enjoyed the print version much more.

This book was an absolute joy to read! I highly recommend it to one and all. It includes struggles with sexuality, pressure of Hollywood and wonderful stories about how he came to be who he is today. The best part is how you the reader can choose the path of his story. Wonderfully written!

First and foremost, please pick up the physical copy of this book. Two simple reasons:
1) EBooks SUCK.
2) Physical books are how Choose Your Own Adventure Books are meant to be read. With all of your fingers holding the pages you've moved on from, and when you run out of fingers you let pages slip and hope to find your place again, and dammit, that is the 'Merican way.

Also, because if your ebook experience is anything like mine, every single effing time you try to press the "HERE" link, instead of going to the assigned page, it will simply move you to the next page. THIS IS NOT HOW THAT IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN, 3M CLOUD LIBRARY APP.

Anyway. This book makes me want to go to every review of an autobiography I've ever written and lower the rating. I demand all autobiographies be written in this style from now on. I will accept no other.

I am a huge fan of Neil Patrick Harris. I was a fan of Doogie Howser when I was a little girl, and though he disappeared for so many years, I do remember seeing the occasional Lifetime movie (I HEART CHEESY LIFETIME MOVIES) with him in them, and I always knew it was Doogie. (Sorry, Neil)

But even if I wasn't a fan, I would still love this book. I would still absolutely adore reading about his life, in this magical disjointed way. I read about his childhood, then his kids' childhoods, then about his AMAZING performance of "Bigger" from the Tony awards*, then about his amazing husband David, then about his time on Doogie Howser, then about his time with Elton John, then about the first time he realized he was gay, then some more about his kids, then about how many times his body was never found again.

It's great to have an explanation for the lack of Dr. Horrible Part 2. Shame about all the quicksand surrounding big named stars' houses.

The pace of this book is so wacky and frenetic, and it feels like this is how Neil really is. And that's half the delight. He's very open, and so funny. He talks about a lot of his projects, including a chapter on the above referenced Dr. Horrible that made me smile like a huge idiot. He's got former costars and friends writing chapters (Hi, Nathan Fillion. Love you, call me), and they're joining in on the fun as well.

My only complaint was allowing Perez Hilton a chapter in here. I realize it shows what a stand up guy Neil is, but after his treatment of Neil when he wasn't ready to announce his orientation to the world, I'd rather him just use this book as a venue for a very public "FUCK YOU".

Speaking of which, he's also not one to hold back on his opinion of former costars. Looking at you here, Dustin Diamond. And thank you, Neil, for finally giving me an explanation for why Victor Newman no longer played Robin's dad on HIMYM. Man, that bugged me. I missed the controversial tweet.

The chapter on HIMYM (set up in a wonderfully classic HIMYM style) was sweet and fun, and ended with a snark on the finale, which could've garnered the 5 star review even if the rest of the book was the word "bro" repeated ad nauseum.

Just wonderful all around. Fantastic read, and I love him even more now than I did before.

* If you haven't seen it, I demand you go here immediately. I laughed so hard I cried. And then the "We were that kid" part may have made me cry for a different reason.

A fun way to present an autobiography. Took me back to my favorite "choose your own ending" books from my youth. A fun read if you like NPH.

A fun format for an autobiography! A bit difficult as an ebook though.

Interesting and entertaining read. The Choose Your Own Adventure style was fun but I found myself wishing it was regularly written so I got a better chronological storyline.

I listened to the audiobook and it was great! I absolutely recommend it to anyone who likes NPH.

3.5 stars! This was really fun. I love how this book I own will be different when I go back and read it again. My favorite parts are when Neil speaks of his children, how they came to be part of his family and how those precious beings are growing up, developing their personalities and cute little quirks. I also enjoyed learning of his experience in movies and TV.....so interesting and truly amazing. I see NPH as more of a real person now instead of just the characters he's played. I became such a big fan after watching HIMYM and to read about this man is a privilege. A great book to own.
