Neil Patrick Harris is Awesome, Funny and a True Bro. I have watched How I Met your Mother and other work that he has been and I loved to learn more about him. What I loved about this Autobiography was how fun it was to read it would not just about facts of a person life, it was fun and funny and an adventure within itself. I felt the personality of Neil Patrick Harris throughout the pages on the book with the true facts to the funny story the book could take depending on the decisions you made. Overall this was a fun book to read and I would love to read more Make your Own Autobiography books!
This is a trimmed down version of my review, to view the full review visit The Book Ramble.
This autobiography written by Neil Patrick Harris features cute stories about his kids and partner, intense discussions on coming out, marriage, work, and an unusual format. Harris makes use of the "Choose Your Own Adventure" style to tell his life story through multiple streams often giving you a closer focus on just one aspect of his life rather than others. It was a unique read with an interesting sort of novelty in the formatting but it was also kind of a pain to read.
I adore NPH, he seems like such a great guy and such a great dad. He writes very honestly, he's just a regular guy despite being kind of a mega-celebrity since he was young. He tells all kinds of stories from his childhood, TV days, broadway, hosting, raising kids, meeting celebrities - everything you can imagine and he does it openly and honestly. He doesn't hold back opinions on people or observations he just tells it how it is. I was really impressed and awed by this open honesty.
I did have issues with this book though. A hurdle that for me really lowered my enjoyment. The format. The whole "Choose Your Own" thing didn't work for me. I did think it was fun, if a little gimmicky.
I do recommend this book but be prepared for a little bit of stress, a lot of laughs, a lot of fun honestly, but stress too...so much stress.

I tried listening to the audio version of this and I couldn't. It was so bad and confusing. DNF.
I am hoping to someday go back and read the actual book.

This was truly a fun experience. I had a smile on my face for most of the read!
I enjoyed the choose-your-own-adventure format which I found clever and original. My only complaint was there was no way to tell what was NPH's real story until you died or lived miserably ever after. I wish there was some kind of clue to following the true-life story - like a star on the page when you get the "right" page turn. I really enjoyed any and all stories about the twins!
I began reading this book with an open mind since you can chose where to jump around in the book. It took me back to my R.L. Stine Goosebumps "Choose your own ending" days. I was disappointed with the jumping around of it all. I enjoyed the humor and NPH is a favorite actor of mine so it was nice to read more about his life and work. I just wasn't into jumping around and feeling like I wasn't able to grasp his full story by doing so. I ended up "cheating" and going back to the beginning and just reading it straight through. All in all an ok book.
