I listened to the audiobook - which I think took some of the adventure out of the book. NPH tried to add in some things so that the essence of the book remained, but I'm not sure how successful it was. It was also weird to have it be told in second person. I'm not Neil Patrick Harris - so that was distracting at times. Overall, I really enjoyed hearing the history of his career and what it was like to come back and be successful.

FABULOUS ON AUDIOBOOK! :) Funny, poignant, and honest.

Fascinating glimpse behind the scenes in Hollywood. Had me laughing out loud throughout. NPH is a humble, witty, and grounded actor- one of the true role models in Hollywood. His writing is impressive and he's just a downright interesting person. Can't remember the last time I had this much fun reading a book!!!

3 1/2 stars (3 for the book and an extra 1/2 for the amount of goodwill that NPH established by book's end).

I was really looking forward to this one because I like NPH, but I loved the idea that he would use the Choose Your Own Adventure device for his autobiography. However, I wasn't sure in the first pages how well it was going to work out. The usage of "you" all the time didn't really work for me in the beginning, but I quickly got used to it.

You kind of have to jump back and forth some, but that's to be expected with the CYOA format. Some of the plot lines are kind of dumb, but, here again, that's how it always with the format. Aside from that, his book is a lot of fun. There are drink recipes, card tricks, celebrity testimonials (some are better than others), and some truly interesting anecdotes about NPH's life. The Elton John one is, in particular, almost beyond belief but I'm sure every word of it is true and it's a hell of a lot of fun to read!

Keep your expectations in check and you'll have fun with this one.

Lots and lots of innovative fun, interspersed with touching and interesting moments from Neil's life. This guys should win an award for this autobiography, which is written in the style of the "Choose Your Own Adventure" books, and has been put together with such care. The writing is funny and honest, despite the "premise" of the book, and there are lots of little treats within its autobiographical pages, including card tricks (that work!) that you can play along with, letters to Neil from famous friends, and even a crossword puzzle.

funny lighthearted fast-paced

If you're a NPH fan you need to check this out! It's by far the funniest autobiography I've ever encountered!

Loved this!!

This book is really, really fun. I like hearing about his family, his experience in Broadway, and his work in Dr. Horrible's sing-along blog. One interesting thing that was different from other choose your own adventure books was that the book was fairly chronological from front to back so
It could kind of be enjoyed if you just wanted to see everything in his life. I think more autobiographies should be written this way.
