This is billed as a choose your own adventure style autobiography. It is an entertaining and creative approach that mainly works. I thought it was a funny look at a blessed life.

This was an extremely fun read. NPH is incredibly funny, of course, witty, and all around creative. I think that I made it to all of the different story lines, options, adventures, and endings, though it took me a while. I usually hate biographies, autobiographies, and everything dealing with people babbling about asinine details of their lives. However this 'Choose Your Own Autobiography' was great. I got to learn all about the genius that makes up Neil Patrick Harris, and also experience hilarious misadventures that I usually chose on accident.
It was fun and I loved it!

I love Neil's career. He is witty and charming and so is his book. It is fascinating how they get to be famous. He cracked me up. It's a good read.

For the audio: do not listen to this with your kids in the car, as the crass jokes and sexual explicitness is for adult ears. The best parts of this memoir focus on NPH's career, his gratitude for his success, and his love for David. Worth a read for fans of Doogie and HIMYM.

Really liked some parts, really didn't like other parts. Some language, adult content. Enjoyed hearing behind the scenes of Emmy performances & Broadway shows most. Definitely not to listen to with your kids. He's clearly a great performer... format was very different, had to analysis what was true sometimes vs. what was fantasy or a joke.

This is another book I got from amazon at a steep discount, that I wouldn't necessarily have picked up, especially right away. But I like NPH, and thought his autobiography might have some interesting tidbits. There were a few interesting anecdotes, but I don't feel like I have a really good sense of Neil as a person, or that I know a lot about his life.

The book is done in the style of those choose-your-own-adventure books that were popular when I was a kid. I really didn't like this gimmick, and it seems like it was just more work for both the author and the reader. This also had the effect of keeping the book "light," as the disjointed nature of either constantly going back and forth within the book (or reading it straight through, knowing that the story does not really flow, chronologically or otherwise) doesn't really lend itself to an in-depth exploration or explanation of issues, thoughts, or experiences.

All in all, this was an interesting enough read -- fine to read on a plane or to pass some time. But it's not something I'd suggest going out of your way to get or read. Again, I may not be the ideal reviewer, as I don't read much celebrity biography, and ordinarily would not have bought/read this book. (But I'm still a fan of Neil Patrick Harris.)

"You, Neil Patrick Harris, are born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on June 15, 1973‰Ы_"

Thus begins Mr. Harris's Choose Your Own Adventure version of his autobiography.

Cla - wait for it - ssic.

Listening to the audio version was a bit disjointed, because a choose your own adventure book isn't intended to be read from front to back. But at the same time I checked out the audio, I checked out a hard copy so I could follow along and see how it was put together. It might've been pretty cool just to read the book and follow along that way, but I think it was worth it to miss strictly reading the book to hear NPH actually read in his own voice. Of course, he has a flair for the dramatic which makes listening to him read his own autobiography so much fun. It makes me want to watch the Tonys just to see him host it.

And his coming out story is actually quite beautiful and touching.

I've been wanting to see the film Hedwig and the Angry Inch for years, just have never gotten around to it. Now I wish I could see NPH perform it live.

Great book.

I'm not big on celebrity bios, but this one is pretty great. It has the swagger, humor and heart of Neil Patrick Harris and is literally in the format of the old 'Choose Your Own Adventures.' I've wanted someone to bring back this style for a while and it's pretty fun in autobiography format. I'll admit I cheated and just read it straight through (which worked just fine, unlike the original 'Choose Your Own Adventures') because I didn't want to miss anything.

A choose your own adventure book. A biography. Which is it? It's both! I think only NPH could pull this off. It's fun, but at some point, I really just wanted know the story of his life.

Once again I cannot emphasize enough what a pure joy it is to listen to autobiographies read to you by the author! It just adds that little extra touch that makes me feel like you’re just having a conversation with them. A one sided one at that, but your question was “tell me your life story” and they do it so well.
In the autobiography Neil even plays a clip of little thirteen year old him giving a speech about optimism! Just so cute.
Obviously Neil is funny, but he also is incredibly dedicated and loving. He’s stayed true to himself and humble. :)
