One of my FAVORITE reads of the YEAR is here!!!
The Forbidden Man was not only a sports romance, but a forbidden (my favorite) one as well.
I was reunited with my loves Mateo and Vera, who started my obsession with all things Karina Halle, and am now in love with Thalia and Alejo.

*4.5 STARS*
So many feels!!! I was so excited to see that this was going to be a much longer book than most of the author’s works. Even with it being so long, I still want more. These two characters and their relationship are so wonderful! I haven’t read, that I can remember, an age gap romance where the heroine is the older of the two. I loved it and I will be looking for more of that trope in the future because I loved this one so much!
Thalia is forced to completely change her life when a messy divorce makes her current job awkward. Working for Real Madrid seems to be the move she needs to find herself again. However, when she’s put in charge of helping irresistible Alejo, the forbidden attraction and feelings are immediately there.
This is one of the best age gap romances I’ve read in a long time. I love Alejo so much! He was so mature and strong because of things that happened to him in the past. He was so swoony and so passionate in everything he felt. I loved watching these two find love together and figure out how to move on from their pasts and find a happy future.
This story broke my heart but also put it back together in the best way!
I am embarrassed to say that I've owned Mateo and Vera’s story for a long time but haven’t read it yet. I can promise you, I will be diving into it as soon as I can!
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.

I am completely and utterly speechless. Feels upon feels upon feel. My heart feels so full. Karina has floored me and I was beyond consumed with the story that she so eloquently and beautifully penned.
From the second I started this book, I couldn’t put it down. Every other thought I had was about this book, this story and these characters. I tried to pace myself from finishing reading in one-sitting, but the more I read the more I was sucked in and I couldn’t stop. I lived for this story and for Alejo and Thalia.
There is a specific level where I place the characters I read in books. They have to make me feel some type of way in order to be placed at the very top. And as far as Heroes goes, Alejo Albarado is one at the top of that pedestal. Santa maría, madre de dios this man was everything. I loved everything about him, but what I loved the most was his passion. Passion for life, passion for fútbol and his intense passion for love. Dios mio, the way that he loves is so magnetic and ferocious. There’s a Mexican saying—chuparse los dedos, which translates to “suck ones fingers” basically meaning “finger licking good” and in my eyes that’s definitely one way to describe Alejo.
Thalia, Thalia, Thalia—oh how I adored her! She’s ambitious, hardworking and a go-getter. There were many qualities that I admired in Thalia and I liked how she wasn’t impulsive and really and truly thought things through. I was rooting so hard for her and her happiness because she well deserved it and much more.
Thalia and Alejo’s chemistry was scorching. They burned volcanic hot. And honest to goodness they were meant to be together. Their heart called to the other and it was inevitable that they’d both fall. Age is just a number. And yes, Thalia is much older than Alejo, but love doesn’t know of age or any difference. And both were true in Thalia and Alejo’s story. There were challenges and it wasn’t easy, but in the end love always wins.
The Younger Man is one of the best age gap romances I’ve read in a long time. It was emotional, but at the same time had me laughing. It was sensual, sexy and beautiful. I loved the Spanish that was interwoven in the story. And the setting of this story in Europe was just magical. I was so invested in Thalia and Alejo’s story—I felt them deep in my bones. They took me on an emotional ride but it was well worth it. And though I never wanted Thalia and Alejo’s story to end, I’m content in knowing that I’ll never forget them or their incredible love story.

While I liked how the heroine's struggles felt real, I found Halle's characterisation of our hero unbelievable and caricature-like.
If you're in the market for a low-key melodramatic read set in picturesque Spain, you'd probably love this!

I enjoy this author’s style of writing and will look for more. This book was entertaining, but it was a bit too drawn out. Thalia’s character really bothered me. As other reviewers have pointed out, she was incredibly unprofessional and impulsive. The insta love was not convincing. They seemed to have very little chemistry, but they were both hot. The ending did not sit well with me at all. They’re married and she gets her job back. They adopt because she can’t get prego. Everything’s fixed. In order for this to happen Thalia had to grovel to Alejo for what, exactly? Not giving up all her hopes and dreams for him in the first place? The feminist in me was raging. Alejo gave her no assurance, save his word. Thalia had to make all the effort, and ask for Alejo’s forgiveness when he was literally the reason she had to quit her dream job. But it was all her fault for not trusting in his love. I’m glad I never took the word of a 24 year-old man! His frontal lobe isn’t even fully developed yet. The wishy washy back-and-forth thoughts in Thalia’s inner monologue drove me CRAZY. And Helen, what the heck? What emotionally-intelligent person would ever put up with a “friend” like that? Thalia is 40 and has the emotional maturity of a teenager.

Karina Halle does it again! The Younger Man is Karina’s sexy new standalone in the world of Real Madrid. European Futbol is at the center of Alejo and Thalia’s love story, and what a story it is!
The Younger Man is the epitome of forbidden romance. With a 17-year age gap, as well as our characters being employed by the same organization, they’re forced to be separated from the start. Instant chemistry and an injury bring Alejo and Thalia together and their love cannot be denied.
”I want to tell him I don’t need him, but that would be a lie.
I think I do need him.
I need him to set me free.”
Every single book Karina writes is more real and raw from the last and I really don’t know how she does it! So much heartache and emotion and LOVE, good lord! The Younger Man has shot to my favorite of 2019 list! Its a long one, guys! Get ready for a great ride!
Older but not more mature heroine with younger man
I wanted to like this one but after much discussion and reflection, I’m convinced the age gap wasn’t the issue here. It was the lack of ethical boundaries and awareness of her inappropriate work place decisions that place the heroine in the constant precarious situations.
Thalia was a 40 yr old sports medicine expert, only one of a handful of females working for a professional football team.
She married her boss, the coach of Barcelona team, but they got divorced. The messy situation led to Thalia leaving her job with the football team and eventually landing a new job with Real Madrid.
Thalia met Alejo, a rising star on the team, and began making the same bad choices from the beginning. Her mother and friend pointed it out to her but her libido wouldn’t be denied. The professional ethics should have dictated a higher standard of Conduct but this forty year old woman chose to risk her career again and again.
I wish the ageism was the real taboo here and Alejo was just 23yr old. The author just gave us a wispy washy heroine, while the young man seemed more sure of what he was all about. It would have been more powerful and engaging if the tension wasn’t about workplace romances. Incidentally I loved Alejo, his determination, patience and honesty. He acted 40 and Thalia acted 23.
