I’ve never wanted to go to Spain so badly until after listening to the book.
- Older woman/younger man
-Forbidden
-Sports romance
-Set in Spain
-Steamy
I’m realizing that I really like heroes who are passionate and fall first for their heroine and tells his love interest so. Alego, this beautiful sports star knows he wants and gel fast for his physical therapist, Thaila who’s coming fresh from divorcing from her cheating husband. When Alego comes late on the field & locks eyes with Thalia it’s over with. It’s wrap; there’s no one in the world but her.

This book sucked me right in. I think it could have benefited from being about 100 pages shorter, but overall I enjoyed the character development and taking time to know the characters. I’m going to add the other books in this “series” to my read list (all the books are stand-alones that feature some of the main cast but each book focuses on one couple). I am always surprised how much I enjoy sports/romance books considering I loathe sports - kudos to every author for making me love their worlds and characters!
While I liked how the heroine's struggles felt real, I found Halle's characterisation of our hero unbelievable and caricature-like.
If you're in the market for a low-key melodramatic read set in picturesque Spain, you'd probably love this!

No build up, no chemistry, smutty (the reason this is getting more than 1 star) and unrealistic (no 40 year old professional career devoted woman behaves like this)
Between 4 and 4.5 Stars objectively, but it was a damn near perfect reading experience for me, so I’m giving it 5 stars.
I feel this is a romance lover’s romance novel, and it pushed all of my pleasure buttons in terms of sweetness, sexiness, and swooniness (which is only a word in Romancelandia). Karina Halle capture exactly the feelings I wanted to experience when I pre-ordered this book. The flaws I found were with the pacing and character development in the last 1/4, but considering that I would’ve gladly read 100+ more pages about impetuous, passionate Alejo and cautiously brave Thalia just existing together, then I can say that this is exactly my kind of romance read. I want more of this from Karina Halle.

THAT WAS FANTASTIC AHHHHHHH. FINALLY A FIVE STAR BOOK. Where do I even start? I LOVED THIS BOOK. LIKE REALLY REALLY LIKED IT. I laughed out loud a few times, which is a rare sight to see for me, I got so invested in Thalia and Alejo’s story, and I just had a great time. Can I just say that Alejo’s my dream man. Like where tf do I order one??? He plays sports, is very hot, very passionate, so romantic, has a great sense of humour, and speaks Spanish. I WANT ONE PLS.
Though I had a fun time, there are still a few things that bothered me. 1. The age gap. Ik that it’s a major role in the book, and half to the time I didn’t even notice, but it’s still a foreign concept to me. A 40 year old and a 24 year old. Maybe it doesn’t matter at that point, but as Thalia mentioned, what happens when she’s 60 and he’s 44? I loved them but it’s still kinda meh for me. And 2. Thalia going back and forth at the end was kind of annoying. I understand why she left her job and getting closure at Manchester U, but she left so quickly, changing boats and all that jazz. It was lowkey giving me whiplash. Aside from those points, another thing bothered me (though that didn’t affect my overall enjoyment). HELEN AND THALIA’S MOM NEED TO CHILL. I DO NOT STAN THEM AND THEY NEED TO LEARN HOW TO STAY IN THEIR PLACE. I’m very passionate about my hatred for them :)
Overall, I had a really great time. I loved the pace, the characters, the setting, all of it. May or may not become a comfort book so me bcs i felt so comfortable and at ease reading this. And can I just say, the smut was

Karina Halle’s The Younger Man allows people to see more of the characters from Love, in English. Although, if like me you have not read the book, you do not need to have read it to understand The Younger Man. It’s a complete standalone. However, I will say my interest in Love, in English has massively increased after reading this one. It was already a book I was curious about, but that curiosity has increased tenfold.
As curious as I was about the Love, in English characters, my curiosity about them paled in comparison to my enjoyment of the story in The Younger Man. It pulled me in from the very first page, and I found myself devouring the story. I adored both the characters, I adored all they went through, and everything hit me with emotion.
Even the few elements I saw coming, the few predictable moments, failed to take away my enjoyment of this one. I was completely invested, and each new detail had me falling ever deeper for the characters. In fact, I’m hoping certain side characters get their own story – not only because I loved them, but because it would allow me to get more of this couple.
Without a doubt, Karina Halle delivers a powerful story with The Younger Man.

¡Hala Madrid!
Dude.... I....loved the sh*t out of this, holy crap.
I had to stave off sleep for this.
A young soccer god meets wise therapy guru, I'm shook!
Oh, sorry. Fútbol.
Read it, it's got real world issues, imperfect and hot protagonists, amazing side characters with a story of their own, and great scenes.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the characters, loved the locales, loved the crazy Portuguese sayings. I loved being immersed, like Thalia, in a different culture. Would love to see Luciano get his own book. Happy to revisit Mateo and Vera who I read about several years ago in their book.
