boy was she annoying , I can't even say I truly enjoyed this book because Margaret Beaufort is such a unlikable ,pretentious ,spoiled woman.
the writing is fantastic as usual and I adore the cousins wars but I almost couldn't finish this book thanks to the sulkiest woman ever.

I truly disliked the main character, Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry Tudor. I knew enough history to know she was going to get what she wanted--her son as king--but throughout the whole book, she's so intensely vain and arrogant that I could hardly bear to see it happen at the end.

But Philippa Gregory remains my favorite choice for silly light reading. This wasn't as good as her earlier work--The Other Boleyn Girl was one of my favorites--but it was worth the read, and I'll track down the rest of the series.

Reading a Philippa Gregory book is like hopping into a freshly laundered bed after a hot bath with newley shaved legs! It's simply divine! She masters historical fiction with ease and is on point with her "guesses" that fill in the blanks where history has kept it's secrets from us. The Red Queen is no exception when it comes to her masterful story telling. A pure joy to read as the story jumps of the page into my mind creating a beautiful movie that plays in my head with no effort on my part. I forget I'm even reading!

The book was good but Lord did I dislike Margaret. She is just so pompous.

very good book. i liked the relationships formed!!! you felt bad for her and the life she was dealt!!! i would read it again!!!

I was completely pulled into the White Queen, so in this book I automatically am against Margaret. Not that she is really a likeable character. This book gives a lot of closure to the first. I am excited to read about Henry's life on the throne.

Really enjoyed this gregory novel, the follow up to the White queen about the Lancaster family, margaret beaufort in particular and her determination to put her son on the throne which begins the Tudor reign. I found her a fascinating character, especially her devotion to both joan of arc and having "saints knees." highly recommended.

Margaret Beaufort's story wasn't nearly as romantic as Elizabeth's but I still enjoyed it. She was deeply devoted to her son Henry and survived her loveless marriages. It was nice to see the other side of the War of the Roses and it fully made me understand both sides of the story. If I had to sum up Margaret in one word it would be conniving. She was extremely crafty throughout her life and did what she had to in order to get ahead in life and see her son Henry on the throne. I look forward to reading more in this series and learning more about the War of the Roses.
