This isn’t a bad book. I just feel the entirety of the book is lacking something, and it’s nothing more than a cute story.

Very cute, fun story. It’s definitely a true YA novel in the sense that the writing and story aren’t that sophisticated but it’s a story that deserves to be told and I wish I’d had this when I was in middle or high school!

I liked Abby’s (mostly) body positivity. I liked her friendship with Jax (he was the best character). I was put off by the instalove because as cute as Abby and Jordi were together I felt like there should’ve been more of a lead up to it, so that was a bit unsatisfactory.
Everything got wrapped up in the end but it felt a bit rushed. Still, this was a cute read.

freaking ADORABLE!!! i normally wouldn’t read books like this but i couldn’t help myself here :-) abby is such a fantastic main character and i love her and jordi’s relationship. i also love the honest dialogue about fatness in the world of fashion, as well as abby’s relationship with her mom!
that being said, this book doesn’t get too deep into any of the topics it tries to explore — and to its credit, i don’t think it’s trying to be deep — but that prevented me from enjoying it as much as i probably could have. the prose is also pretty simplistic, so the target audience of this book sits more in the 12-15 age range than anything.
there were a couple of comments here and there about abby (lesbian) and her platonic relationship with her jock friend jax that felt weird (the author mentioned how they would hook up if abby was straight a few too many times for my liking), but it wasn’t frequent enough to be a serious issue. if you are a fan of YA romance and cute queer stories this book is 100% for you!

This was very sweet, just a feel-good f/f rom-com style of book. I liked Abby and her friend Jax was super sweet. It's angled toward a younger audience so the characters felt and acted like messy teenagers but that's just natrual I guess.
The thing that would have given this book a solid 3 star rating would have been a clearer plot. The main problem doesn't really become a problem which was kinda strange. But yeah, if you're looking for some really sweet, first love kinda book about two gay girls this book is defiantly for you.

A light-hearted and somewhat predictable teen romance blossoms in the pages of Spalding's novel. Abby is a reliable, and relate-able narrator (though sometimes you just want to grab her by the shoulders and tell her to stop hating on her self!).
Spalding built a familiar and safe world that cast lives in, and she keeps their relationships fresh and dynamic throughout the story. Our protagonist fluctuates between strength & confidence and anxiety and hesitation, much like any teen does. And because of the emotional depths of Abby and the other characters we feel a strong kinship and understanding of their plight.
If you like fashion, LA teen romance, and lots of talk about burgers: read this book.

I loved this book. I loved how relatable Abby was, I loved that Jordi’s full name is Jordana, I loved Abby’s friendship with Jax. Abby is a fat gay girl who feels like she’s on the outside and learns to navigate her way in not feeling like she’s not and I JUST LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH OK
