I loved this book. I loved how relatable Abby was, I loved that Jordi’s full name is Jordana, I loved Abby’s friendship with Jax. Abby is a fat gay girl who feels like she’s on the outside and learns to navigate her way in not feeling like she’s not and I JUST LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH OK

Cute, inclusive read.

I liked it a lot but I was a bit bummed the author didn’t detail any of the burgers!

Cute gay romance? Retro clothes? Body positivity? Diversity? All the yummy cheeseburger eating? Relatable characters who you love to root for (I loved Abby & Jordi SO MUCH)? This book literally has it all - I wish I had had it to read growing up!! This is a fluffy YA romance through and through, so don’t expect much “substance”, but come on - that’s not what these books are written for. Andddd, Spalding does hit a few marks - the body positivity parts are heartfelt, and the diversity of the characters feels realistic and not just slapped on to check off a box. Romances are written to fill a soft spot in your heart, and Spalding hits the mark with The Summer Of Jordi Perez. More adorable WLW romances, please.

This is the fat girl summer book that I have been waiting my whole life for.

Abby is a fat lesbian who gets to wear whatever. clothes. she. wants. All her outfits are described and they are all CUTE. Do you know how rare it is to get to read a description of a fat girl's outfit, let alone one that isn't "oversized t-shirt and jeans"??? It's so rare. Getting to read about a fat girl being fat and beautiful and unashamed of how she looks is E V E R Y T H I N G

Abby does deal with some internalized fatphobia when it comes to how others perceive her. She loves her body and is proud of how she looks, but she lives in fear of someone else making a comment about it. Which might sound like a contradiction - how can she be unashamed if she worries about what others might say? But when you're fat, even if you love your body and how you look, you're still going to be scared of what others will say. Because they're always going to have something to say, even if it's "positive" and how you "should be prouder" of how you look. There is always a comment.

As much as I loved the fat rep side of the story, I was left wanting on the romance side. Abby and Jordi are cute as they try to figure out their relationship, particularly at work, but I wasn't as invested in their relationship as I would have liked to have been for a book that is mostly a romance. I liked it enough to enjoy their scenes together, but it wasn't quite five stars for me.

DAMN, I loved THE SUMMER OF JORDI PEREZ so much! As usual, a book I loved went too fast and I didn't even try to slow it down. SIGH.

I needed to read something happy and fun and celebrating-summer-y. By Chapter 6, already this book had made me laugh and smile so much. Not that I'm surprised, having loved Amy's writing for awhile, but it's very nice to have this right now.

I don't know a whole lot about fashion but I have a lemon-print full-skirted dress from eShakti and I wanted everything else Abby was wearing or talking about. Also, Jax and Abby might be my favorite friendship ever.

What a fun book! It was light without being dumb but it also touched on some great topics - body positive attitudes, relationships, acceptance. I loved Abby and Jordi both and loved all the details of the internship. Everything in the book was described so well it just came alive. The perfect contemporary.
