I’ve been recommending this one left and right as an upbeat summer read! Seventeen-year-old fashion blogger Abby is beyond excited to have landed her dream internship at her favourite clothing store in LA for the summer. She’s used to existing on the sidelines either as her best friend’s sidekick, or sitting at home updating her plus-size style blog. This internship is Abby’s key to something bigger: her potential first job in the fashion industry. But Abby couldn’t predict having to share the coveted internship with a classmate, Jordi, and Abby certainly doesn’t predict falling for Jordi super hard. Their flirtation and relationship is pretty cute, and they have to hide it from their boss, because only one of them will get the job at the end of the summer. Abby also finds an unexpected new friendship in Jax when he asks her to join him in testing all of the burgers in LA for his dad’s new app. This book shows the possibilities of summer, teens striving for possible career goals, and love for a fat girl. It’s wonderful and is such a feel-good book!
Fashionista Abby is ecstatic to have a coveted internship at a boutique for the summer. Sharing it with Jordi and competing with her for a paid position in the fall is not what she had in mind. Spending time with her friend-in-law Jax rating the best burgers around LA helps her process her first crush and all of her other feels about life. Sweet, adorable and genuine.
Sweet, charming, fun as hell to read. Absolutely perfect for summer.
I wish there had been less of Abby hating that she liked Jax, though? That was really weird how it never went away. I know it was a joke, but... I guess it was not that funny. Not that it was damaging, just...odd.
Anyway, this book is super gay, super fat positive, and super sweet. You'll read it in two hours.

The ultimate silly-fun, lighthearted summer read. Everything was delightful. Honestly this is the book I wanted "Lean on the Offbeat" to be.
Okay this book is totally adorable.
I loved the summer vibes this book is filled to the top with. All the bright colors and foods! I loved that even in the dead of winter this book made me long to walk down the sidewalk of a shopping mall sipping a coffee and wearing summer in every way.
Abby is described as a plus sized girl who runs a fashion blog. Shes got pink hair (love) and has never dated a girl before although shes been out for a while. I like when books are this sort of story, where it isn't a coming out story but a finding love/romance story. Jordi is almost her exact opposite, small and wears more black than colors, shes passionate about photography and hello kitty! I loved how the two are brought together by an internship and not by some "chance" fate.
The romance in this book is beyond cute. Nothing felt hurried as the plot went on. It felt very natural and real. Both Jordi and Abby chat and get to know each other, they find they have similar passions and enjoy simple things the same way. They fall in love over the span of the book. I loved how Abby would swoon over Jordi and I'm pretty sure I literally squealed when they first told each other how they were feeling. The racing thoughts Abby had about Jordi are totally accurate when you are not sure how the person you like feels in return.

Okay, don't get me wrong... The Summer of Jordi Perez was a cute book. The only thing that annoyed me was the narrator for the audiobook. That's basically it. Oh, and the whole eating burgers and fat shaming thing. That was weird and I didn't understand it.
Other than that, it was just a cute book. Abby was sort of interesting and slightly entertaining. I can admit that she was uniquely herself all the way through and didn't hold back anything. I also really liked her friendship with Jax. Even if things were a little overdramatic here and there.
In the end, I'm glad that I got to jump into this. It was short and easy to breeze through.

Aw this book was so cute. Very teenage summery rom com but we all need that sometimes.
