Audiobook
Narration: excellent
Wow ! from the first page to the last. I was enthralled from the first look into the red eyes. That had to be it because I couldn’t quit this book for real life things like work and meals, I had my headphones on doing everything. I may have to listen again.
Witches, vampires and voids (non magical people) make up this well developed world. It starts out with a meek void girl in a prison. She’s abused, nearly starved and yet she has hope till a vampire becomes a prisoner. She has past trauma involving vampires and immediately gets anxious. The hatred she feels for them is deep. Her tormentor see’s this and forces her to care for the beaten vampire. A pack is formed between them, and the adventure begins. Cliffhanger ending, a real :O ending !
Dark twisted vampiric tale with magical witches, social stigmas,
I have so many questions for the next book.

I was chosen to recieve an ARC of this book, but my opinions are all voluntarily given and are 100% my own.

Holy crap!! First of all, Vasilisa Drake does not hold back in this fantasy realm where witches, vampires, and voids (non-magical folk) live. Raphael and Samara first meet in a prison, and in a not so typical fashion: SHE facilitates HIS escape. Gotta love the heroine taking the lead, even if it just because he's the better of two options!
Throughout the book you get to watch Samara battle a lot of previously held prejudices, as Raphael continues to show her that not everything she remembers is true about his kind. Their relationship is definitely slow burning, although it is very obvious that Raphael falls first. He is very much the possessive MMC, and will do anything and everything to ensure Samara's safety/well being. I loved Samara's ability to call him out on certain practices and beliefs that Raphael held. It was very obvious that they worked well together.
This story is book one, and there is most definitely a cliffhanger of all cliffhangers at the end! I cannot wait to read the next one.

If you love dark, angsty, mysterious vampire fantasy stories with turns you don’t see coming, this is for you! I won’t put any spoilers in my review, but suffice it to say that I ate this book up. I received an audiobook ARC and the opinion is entirely my own, but I will absolutely be waiting FERALLY to read the second book.  This book has vampires, witches, a little violence, the SLOWEST SLOW BURN EVER… Just read it.

I received an ARC of the audiobook and am happily offering a review.

That being said, I would have paid triple the purchase price for this book. The pace was perfect: slow burn and yearning but then suddenly tense at moments. Poetic writing but not overly flowery for no reason. And our narrator was great (her "scary bad guy" voice is pretty good at making the hairs on my neck stand up).

Our MMC is complicated and layered. He's possessive (touch her and die kind of a guy), he's handsome, a little sassy, but deeply caring. He yearns like it's his job.

Our two side characters are funny at times, but also key players in the story. We get glimpses at the world without too much world building thrown all at once.

Tropes include: court intrigue, slowwww burn, only one room at the inn, one horse, comfort after trauma, a somewhat naive fmc, spicy bites, disguised identity, and more.

There is a cliffhanger ending (it's soooo delicious), so I'm eager to find out book 2 news.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — A Bargain So Bloody by Vasilisa Drake

This book completely consumed me. I’m still reeling from that cliffhanger—absolutely brutal in the best way.

From page one, I was hooked. The main character’s journey—her fight for freedom and identity—was so compelling. I couldn’t stop reading, even when some parts felt a little predictable. By the final chapter, my heart was racing, and I had to take a breath before reading the epilogue. And wow, it delivered.

I don’t even want to pick up another book. I just want to reread this one. That’s how much it got under my skin.

No spice or explicit scenes, but it doesn’t need it. The tension, emotion, and character arcs are more than enough. If you love dark fantasy with depth and heart, this is a must-read.

First of all... I was NOT expecting that ending! 🤯

Now that that's out of the way, I must say that I found this to be quite the unique vampire story! The fact that Samara held out for as long as she did and was truly disgusted by the vampires was so refreshing! She was attracted to Raphael but never let her attraction win out over her disgust. Freaking love that!

And Raphael- the golden hearted vampire king wasn't what I expected either. Fiercely protective of this nobody human whilst being absolutely vicious to just about everyone else. Very much a touch her and brutally die kind of guy. He really was a stand up guy though. Interested in seeing how this all plays out.
