I'm not sure i enjoyed the fast pacing of the book. I would have loved a two-book series to give more information to the reader about corruption and how everything was developing. I felt lost at times and had no choice but to keep reading since it wasn't something that had been explained but something that would be explained later.

I liked it! It's fast though

the back cover synopsis is like the first 14 pages of the book and it only gets zanier.

The beginning of this book is tremendously bad which does a disservice to how good it becomes. There’s a lot of fodder that could be cut, but that isn’t a big problem. The main story does get very exciting, and the author does a good job of depicting the action. There are too many names and places; they become convoluted and useless as they’re often forgotten later, they’re also often just additional names to the key characters which is unnecessary. I overall liked the book, but I think the editor should have addressed what my issues were because this truly could have been a terrific book. While I’m not a romance novel reader, there is some of that in here too if that’s what you like.

Could not put it down. Loved the characters. Pretty intense plot but a delightful read.

The concept behind this book is so good! A creepy forest as the main antagonist, a dragon (fair, that turned out to be a guy, but he's still called Dragon), some weird offering of a girl every 10 years. Yes please! I was reasonably pleased with the way it was executed too - I did enjoy this book, although I also had a few problems with it.

GOSH it was long. I don't actually think the book is longer than any other book I read, it just felt SOOO long. It jumps straight into the story from the first page, which I LOVED. But after the first chapter or so, the pace of the story slowed right down and started to drag. It didn't really pick up again until about 2/3 of the way through.

Also, the story felt like 2 books that had been put together. Half way through, and I mean exactly half way through, the book changed location and kind of changes the direction, and became more political and focused on the royal family. I didn't dislike it, but I was left just a little confused at the sudden change.

I was left a little disappointed by the ending regarding the romance aspect of the book. The conclusion of the Wood was AMAZING and perfectly done, but the ending didn't really conclude the romance at all, and I was left with a few questions. The romance was actually disappointing throughout the whole book. I felt like it was there, but also not there at the same time..?

Overall, the book is a good read. I enjoyed the plot and thought that was very well done. It tied in magic and politics, and the ending was especially very well thought out. The book just dragged a little in my opinion and I was disappointed by the (lack of?) romance.
