I was super disappointed with this book. This was one of my attempts at trying to read more genre fiction and specifically fantasy, but now I feel like it scared me off. Prime example of telling, not showing, which made the whole story feel like a slog. I actually enjoyed the first third or so where it was just Agnieska, the Dragon and later Kasia, but then it just became terribly convoluted with no grounding in character development, and I couldn’t wait for it to be over. The origin of the Wood is somewhat interesting but not worth the awful bore of most of the book.
