Loved it! The vibe of a dark fairytale. The story was really well paced and kept interesting to read all the way till the end. Cant wait to read more from this author!

Adding: the one spicy scène felt very random though, couldve been left out/replaced for a more emotional intemate moment. There was barely any romantic build up at all to this

I really like Naomi Novik’s writing. I have read part of the Temeraire series (waiting for more books for the library) and Scholomance series. I also read Spinning Silver. If you like this, Spinning Silver(SS) is the most similar. The one thing I don’t like in both SS and Uprooted are the
relationships between very old men and young women.
This trope always bothers me. Otherwise I found to be captivating, well written, and overall beautiful stories. The way the author writes the worlds allows the reader to imagine woods looming up around them, the clang of swords, and the murmuring or spell work. Throughout the book I was captivated (I read it in two days)!
The other thing I want to comment on is that with both SS and Uprooted I felt like many stories were told in one book. It’s kind of like when someone makes a video in one part instead of many. When you are halfway through you think you’ve come to the precipice but there is half the story left. I couldn’t imagine how the rest of the books would be as good as what I already read but they were! I’ve never read a book quite like these.

I felt like the characters were one note, and the writing style was hard for me to pay attention to. Overall not for me

I live for a unique magic system that has rules that make just enough sense.

I felt like no matter how many times I reread entire pages, I just couldn't keep a grasp on what was going on especially in the higher action scenes. The description should have been centered around high impact scenes instead of trivial situations but it wasn't. The plot was definitely interesting and I think it was worth a shot, but I just didn't enjoy it. Sometimes she would suddenly remember spells that could get everyone out of a sticky situation, but none of the other extensively trained wizards would know what to do. The main character, Agnieszka, seemed out of place no matter where she was and considering the plot it was understandable, but when she was thrust into a situation she wasn't familiar with, she wouldn't take the advice of more knowledgeable people or take their help (even if they were difficult to trust). Almost everyone in the novel (except for the Dragon) seemed to act on impulse and make decisions at the drop of a dime and that just wasn't reasonable to me. This book was just not for me.

I understand where all the hype is coming from, but...

I didn't like it. I just didn't.

I couldn't put down the book ! Its so good. It's only flaw, I'd say, is that it is a little too fast-paced. I got a little lost at times and had to re read a paragraph or two to understand what was happening. I must say, though, that it gives me an excellent excuse to re-read it !
