I so wanted to enjoy this one more than I actually did in the end. While there were elements about this story that I loved, there were also others that I just didn't find interesting or engaging. In all honesty, I felt like it was a really good story that suffered from being overly long. It could have done with some firm editing.
That being said, I liked the characters - Agnieszka and Kasia in particular and the friendship between them. The romance I could have done without, but the unusual ending I thought was wonderful. I'm still disappointed that I didn't enjoy this novel as much as I expected to, but it is still a brillitantly written tale (just one that could do with a few words less!).

Pretty slow paced at the beginning, but with compelling enough characters and backdrops that it moves you through the exposition fairly easily. Best read in the fall, I think; it’s a very cozy fantasy, despite its darkness.
