I'm not that into mystery as a genre, but this book was incredibly well written and drew me in quite well.  It's left me with somewhat mixed feelings at the end, but it was an enjoyable read at least. While the CW list is quite a lot, I would say it's not as bad as you might think. I put them as graphic as they are explicitly described, but I personally didn't think it was all to bad.

The writing is among the best of recent books I’ve read. Makkai is talented. I do feel as if there are moments when I wasn’t sure what to think of
the examination of the #MeToo movement and the acknowledgement of widespread sexual harassment and assault perpetrated by men against cis women and the protagonist’s feelings about her ex Jerome’s cancelation. Perhaps the gray area is the point.
I was also disappointed about the way that
Brit and Alder disappeared from the final act and how Jeff sort of takes over the role of coconspirator. The “love story,” however brief, felt quite tidy.
Still, I felt sucked into this plot, alongside of Makkai’s writing.

Narration is super interesting! Written from main characters perspective as if she’s talking to another character in her head

What a page turner, combining a very human narrator returning to her boarding high school, a scene of a crime, but also, of pain and harm for her and many others, too. Fast moving chapters, some relatable minor characters, and the dissonance of the world not quite being what we think it is (or should be).

Thaitin an leabhar so liom ach caithfead mo mhachnamh a dhéanamh air.

Léigheas an ceann so réasúnta tapaidh, bhí na caibidlí cuíosach gearr agus bhí sé frist cúpla ceann a léamh agus sos a thógaint.

Chuir sé ag cuimhneamh mé ar na slite go mbímíd ag déanamh cloí le scéalta i gcónaí, tar éis eachtra tragóideach is maith linn scéal néata bheith ann, bíonn sé níos fusa dhúinn ná an fhírinne. Ní maith linn an doiléire agus an éiginnteacht.

Mar gheall ar dheireadh an scéil:
Ní rabhas sásta leis, tháinig sé aniar aduaidh orm ar shlí, bhíos ag súil le deireadh mór maith go mbeadh na héinne ag ceiliúradh agus an chúis buaite acu, ach gan dabht ní mar sin a bhí. B'in é a bhí bhuam, ach ní dóigh liom go mbeadh an deireadh san go maith i ndáiríre. B'in é a bhí i gceist agam, bhí scéal deas néata bhuam ach ní mar a bhíonn.
