June 2018-I really liked the start of this. MC is a budding film director who was likable and a bit quirky but somewhere around the middle of the book she became overly angry and bit brattish as well as big headed. She just flipped on people for no reason and she became a bit cliched. The ending sorted it out but the resolutions felt a bit simple and as we couldn't actually see the film, I felt that this flooding of praise from strangers was a bit OTT. For one short film, she got to take her whole family to Mumbai. This isn't a terrible book and it's very readable but when I compare it to When Dimple met Rishi, it's a bit meh. I will still be on the lookout for this authors next book. This hasn't in any way put me off her writing. I still think Sandhya Menon is an excellent writer who creates realistic characters and interesting stories.

This book was so cute I loved it!

4.7-

Sandhya Menon’s books make my heart so happy!

This was cute and it was a very quick read. But I found myself increasingly frustrated with our heroine. The conflict just felt way more drawn out than it should have been. I think this is a case of the book being a bit too young for my interests.

I did really appreciate the spotlight on female directors though. Especially the lack of female directors of color and how much harder it is for anyone looking to follow that path in life. Twinkle’s love of film and her goal to be a director was my favorite aspect of this story.

This was too cute! I don't know why it took me so long to pick this up. First, let me say that Twinkle and Sahil are absolutely adorable. Second, I knew who her secret admirer was (I totally knew) and cringed when she almost embarrassed herself -gawd that would have been terrible! Third, I was very happy with this ending. I mean who doesn't like a sappy happy ending? I recommend this book.

sandhya menon's ya romances will forever be my comfort reads :3

So let's make one thing clear, this novel is super cute, but also it's not my thing. I wanted to love it more than I did. Twinkle feels bright and vibrant, and her inner voice is great.

But I think I would have loved it more if it was just about a girl struggling with her friend. The romance plot left me feeling kind of bleh about the entire thing. It's the same problem I had with Sierra Burgess is a Loser (one of many problems), where what was engaging was the friendship and the romance felt like it was just kind of there.

It's a cute story about friends trying to find their way and with Twinkle striving to be her best self, tying that to getting the right boy seems very much what a teenager would do... but it doesn't make it less frustrating to read.

Overall, I enjoyed this. I liked the cultural perspective and the unique style of a story told through diary entries - kind of epistolary, which I always seem to enjoy. My one frustration was that the main character bugged me a bit. She just still had a bit of thag teenage self-absorbed, angsty attitude. I did enjoy that she grows through the novel and becomes aware of the way she is being basically super immature - it made for great character development. And I liked how the story ended for sure, it was sweet and the family aspect was heartwarming.

Another time I really wished goodreads allowed half stars. 3.5.

This is not in a format I enjoy- in fact stories told only via texts or emails or diary entries really make me grit my teeth.

However, the story is adorable and helps get me past the fact it's written entirely from Twinkle's diary.
