This was wonderful, but kind of stressful. I spent a lot of time mentally yelling "Twinkle, don't do this bad thing!"

(I liked [b:When Dimple Met Rishi|28458598|When Dimple Met Rishi|Sandhya Menon|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1475687488s/28458598.jpg|48593860] better, but I am definitely looking forward to more from Menon.)

(Also, I like the original cover (with the pink) better than the Owlcrate exclusive cover.)

I loved When Dimple Met Rishi, so I was very excited to read this book. It was a good story, and the ending pulled it together. However, I felt like the themes of this book were very young. The only reason I finished it is because I like Sandhya Menon.

A book about a WOC named Twinkle who dreams of being a world-famous filmmaker and bringing people together while navigating the social life of her high school. She's a "groundling" who dreams about being one of the "silk feathered hats" of her school.

This was a wonderfully written book told in such a way you were kept enthralled until the very last page. At least... I was. I found it very difficult to top and I think the reason why I was is also why I rate this book a four out of five stars (well really 4.5): Twinkle is oblivious.

She's stuck so far inside her head that she doesn't see the things that are in front of her. Which is both irritating to read and entertaining all at the same time. I don't know if its just because I graduated high school years ago, or she's just that oblivious, but there were times when it irked me to my core.

Sahil is every nerd girls dream. I know because I'm one of them! He's funny, geeky, supportive, and he sees Twinkle for who she is in a way that not even her best friend could. Even when she made friends outside her one or two (depending on whether or not you count Dadi as a friend), she still wasn't satisfied until she was this "Shiny future Twinkle". I mean what's so great about being popular? I've never cared. Granted being shat on by others sucks so I feel her pain there, but like... she had friends who had her back and made her smile and yet she still wanted to be a "silk feathered hat"? Forget it. I'd happily be a groundling any day.

Even with her obliviousness, I found I had to keep reading. I just had to watch the trainwreck unfold... so Twinkle could finally see what even the readers saw all along. She didn't need to change. She was a gem for exactly who she was. I know that probably more than a lot of people. I've been in a few situations where I tried to change myself to be what others wanted me to be. To this day, I struggle with letting people down. With being a disappointment because I'm not the Shiny OfPagesAndInk they want me to be. But you know what? Tough. I love who I am. Nerdiness, booksmarts, dumb puns, and all. And Twinkle should love herself too. And so should you.

Inspiring Read. Will definitely have to pass it on.

YES YES YES!!!!!!

I love reading Sandhya Menon’s books because her writing is just so good AND she always has stories of different cultures than I’ve ever read and they’re so new and just so dang good!

Sahil is WONDERFUL and I really wish I could’ve seen the movie they made, it sounded so good!!

Cannot wait until the next book!!!

Sandhya Menon is officially one of my favorite YA authors. She writes flawed characters in such an eloquent and relatable way, and manages to depict the complexities of changing relationships, contrasting ideals, and adolescence in general in a really genuine way. Twinkle has always been pushed aside, seen as a 'nobody', and ignored by the popular kids at her school. Her passion for filmmaking is the one thing she clings to as a chance to be seen and heard. Sahil, the twin brother of her long-time crush, the dreamy, popular Neil, swoops in with an offer to partner up and create a movie that sounds way too good to be true. Sahil and Twinkle are pretty much a perfect match, and the way their relationship blossoms is so well done. Twinkle struggles with the new way others are viewing her, and being thrust into the spotlight has impacts she never anticipated. I love the growth in this book---there are highs and lows that really encapsulate the trials of being a teenager. As someone who felt pretty overlooked during high school, I loved the way Twinkle realized that it doesn't matter how many people are acknowledging your shine, as long as you and those you love embrace that shine! I highly recommend this book.
funny lighthearted relaxing

This book is totally awesome! I finished it in literally like one sitting. As an Indian I can totally assure you that I haven't found one single YA book that has desi references that I can relate to. And this book was adorable! I loved the characters (all of them!)

The book is based on an Indian Family and their one and only daughter Twinkle Mehra (Major Indain Actress Referencing here....). The story is majorly from the POV of Twinkle. However, we get to know 2 other characters' thoughts as a part of secret admirer notes and a blog(Loved the blog part!)

It follows the changes and people in Twinkle's life. The intense character of Twinkle is seen going through a few of the teenage phases and the character development throughout the book is relatable!

I loved all the guys in the book. I won't say the names but just a hint that there's a love square! Which I think you would kind of figure out in the beginning itself, though it's officially revealed in the end. However, you'll definitely be turning pages for how the revelation would happens.
Though I could say that that part was a bit predictable.

I can't not write that I loved Sahil! I mean how can anyone not ? He's swoon worthy! Sandhya Menon's writing style is different. She brings the characters to life more easily than most of the writers I've read. Also, there's that bubbly excitement that gets to you while reading. She definitely makes you feel ecstatic while reading her books and that's definitely praise-worthy.

Overall, it was nice summer read! I'll definitely be rooting for the author and waiting for her next book!

P.S I felt the book was a bit too short as it was so good I definitely wanted a bit more.

P.P.S I need an epilogue with a 5-7 years later part! I really would like to know what happened with Twinkle in the long run.

Ooooohhhhhh this one was a doozy.
The first 25% was enjoyable, sahil is freaking adorable and I like Victoria and twinkles friendship.
BUT
Twinkle is probably the most annoying selfish character ever, and I really just wanted to dnf this book because I can’t stand her
She’s like clary but on steroids
Poor sahil, I get him
emotional funny hopeful lighthearted medium-paced

I had mixed feeling about this book. I’ve read when Dimple Met Rishi and I can’t help but compare the two. Twinkle reads a bit younger, maybe due to the setting, but is overall a stronger book than Dimple. In both, there is a better-than-life male love interest and some barrier for the main character in their love story. There are both competitions of talent, a side party, and side characters with a mean girls plot line. In Dimple it falls a bit flat and relies on some problematic tropes. Twinkle has a better developed set of characters and does make an effort to address the short comings of Twinkle herself. Overall this was a light and enjoyable read, but one star off for the formulaic plot line (would have liked to see something that was more different than Dimple).
