Blood Vows is an emotional rollercoaster guaranteed to make you laugh, cry and sigh. Dallas Mason recently found out he had a son. But the person who told him died before giving him a precise location and he and the folks at Arsenal are determined to find him. Meanwhile things in the next town over are heating up and baby sister Riley is being harassed which will never do. And last but not least Kamren Garrett pulls a super hero move right outside the gates of Arsenal and intrigues them all especially Dallas.
Kamren”s story will tear you up as will DJ & TJ’s. You have been warned. But it makes for a happier ending. This book can be read standalone but will be better if you’ve read Jagged Edge (The Arsenal #1) and Sight Lines (The Arsenal Book 2). This one kept me up reading way past my bedtime.

Three and a half stars.

This is the turn of Dallas Mason. Formerly a hit man for The Collective he found out at the end of the last book that he has a son by Marla, his former handler.

Kamren Garrett is pretty much living off grid, seeking the truth about her father's death even though her sister Rachelle and brother Cliff show no enthusiasm and are glad he's dead. Kamren might not be book smart, being dyslexic meant she dropped out of school really early, but she can hunt, track and shoot better than most other people.

When Dallas comes into the Sip and Spin in Marvell he stirs up a hornets nest which puts Kamren front and centre in the sights of the local lowlifes, the Marvell Dogs. It's not clear if it's her investigations that get her followed and almost killed or Dallas' unwarranted interest, either way her only hope of survival is with The Arsenal.

Dallas soon learns that his preconceptions about Kamren were incorrect, far from being a drug-addicted member of the Marvell Dogs she's a crack shot and unbelievably brave. Her skills could be the edge he needs to rescue his son from whoever is hiding him away.

I liked this but I didn't love it. I didn't really think that the character of Kamren worked, she was supposed to be some kind of genius hunter, brought up almost entirely by her father, left school scarily early, living in her car and yet most of the time she spoke and acted just like all the other women in The Arsenal. Also, unlike in the other books, Dallas keeps trying to protect the little woman, which really irritated me because Kamren was more than capable of taking care of herself, although this was framed as Dallas having to learn not to try to protect her.

This book did see some resolution of the issues with the nearby town of Marvell and Dallas' son so that was good but overall my least favourite of the series so far.

I flipping love Kamren. I can't think of one point throughout this when she wasn't true to herself, to who she was. Perfect match for Dallas.

I think what I really like is that throughout the whole series there is absolutely no doubt that the men are definitely strong, capable and alpha... but... they are not arses. Not one of the ones that I have got to know better have let me down. They are vulnerable in their own ways and, sometimes after a little push, aren't ashamed to ask for help.

I love that the women are all strong... all capable... and all have a place within the Arsenal team.

Kind of surprised that I hadn't left a review before.

And I wonder if we will ever hear about Lilly again? ( 08/08/21 Looking forward to the new 'Refuge Ridge' series... wonder if Cliff will be part of it? )

( re-readathon 17/12/20 )

Re-read 08/04/21 Still feel exactly the same about Kamren... she just rocks. Coupla things tho... Dallas left her a note... she knew where he had gone from reading the note... a little later, after receiving the smartphone she confirms that she cannot read. Haley... how on earth was she still in the Resino area after her sexual abuse of Dallas and mental abuse ( and some sexual ) of Dylan. And why did Bubba still allow her in his place? If he is so loyal to the Mason family... she would've been banned. Sighs.

Another question... well, not so much of a question but a need for more information. Dallas was in the Collective due to a black ops thing... where was his black ops handler? How long was he with the Collective? Why on earth did he sleep with Marla... over and over again? It just feels so wrong. And just a little icky. I genuinely just don't get it. Annddd if he were in there cos of a black ops thing... was there ever any resolution??? I think I need to find a group chat or summat similar to sort this out...

08/08/21 Just finished listening to the Audible version... exactly the same thoughts... the reading, Haley. And how on earth did Riley not know? I mean, people are very good at hiding their 'issues'... but... if they had been friends for so many years and Rachelle had been living with them for a few months 24/7... how did she not see? And Brant was a dick. He has a lonnng road to travel to get redemption from me. Also, the narrator hasn't quite clicked for me... when she get into her rythm it flows... but sometimes her speech is a little stilted for me.
