mysterious tense

Great read. A man is murdered. His daughters both claim the other did it. No proof and no way to tell who is lying, so they begin a joint trial. They each have an attorney trying to prove the other did it.

It was such a unique case. I could not stop reading and see how the trial turned out!

Yes! I was never a huge fan of courtroom thrillers but this is my 2nd book in the Eddie Flynn series and I'm excited for more. The great thing about these books is that they can be read as standalones, but now I'm determined to start with the 1st in the series and work my way through. This book was suspenseful and kept me guessing and second-guessing.

This isn’t the kind of book I typically reach for, but I’m glad I did. It’s a legal crime thriller with plenty of courtroom drama, steady suspense, and just enough twists to keep things interesting. The plot unfolds in a clear, linear way. Its courtroom reveals, ongoing investigations, and sharp dialogue built into something I didn’t want to put down. I was eager to see how it would resolve. My only real complaint is that the characters felt a bit thin. Despite the shifting perspectives and time spent in their heads, none of them came alive for me. Their motivations worked for the plot, but I wasn’t convinced any of them had a life beyond this single case. If you’re looking for a thriller with legal drama, this hits just right.

usually i’m pretty good and theorizing and predicting the outcomes of mystery/thrillers. and it was the same with this one, since the beginning i had a suspicion of which sister did it but what i could not figure out for the life of me was how she murdered him and proceeded to get away with it. she fooled every single person in this book and did it so flawlessly i’m in awe. i didn’t care much for the side characters or their backstories - which is why i’m rating it a 3.75 - i wish we got more of the twins instead. i’m still incredibly curious about the mother’s case and that chess game they were playing.

i enjoyed this read and finding out the author was a full-time lawyer while writing it was so cool i love when experts themselves write about their area of expertise. makes it so much more intriguing.
