Male: Cadeon Woede (Rage Demon)
Female: Holly Ashwin (Half Valkyrie)
Plot: He finds her, his soul mate. But might have to betray her to help his brother. She was human and is freaked at finding out she's not anymore.

I speed-read this one. Meaning I didn't read it with my usual level of attention. That's why I'm wary of saying much. I'll give a short review and when I reread it, I'll write a proper one.

In brief: This was a good book. I liked both the protagonists (update: Holly annoyed me) and I loved that Holly was obsessive-compulsive. It gave the book a very relatable aspect with its normalcy. I also really liked the plot and how it focused on Cadeon and his brother's rocky past. Don't know why, but I love it when sibling relationships are a focus. Definitely recommend checking it out.

I'm looking forward to reading the book again as soon as I'm not so far behind my reading schedule and when I don't have exams.

I like most of the book 2/3's of it were good, really it was. It was the 1/3 of the book with Holly the incredibly unbelievable virginal, brainiac, PHD candidate, OCD'd out, inconstant character. *She wrecked the Veyron, how could anyone like a person that does that ?* I didn't believe in her at all, yeah I was shaking my head almost every time she opened her mouth or her thoughts.

Cade- Hot demon man you. Find a girl who'll lick those horns ! He almost carried the whole book himself. He was sexy, patient, sexy, fearless, sexy, relentless, sexy and did I mention he was sexy ? Too good for H-girl. Why did it have to be her ?

so where does this leave me

Cade the Kingmaker, filled with quilt. Has a chance to put his brother back on the throne. This will involve him betraying his woman. There is much at stake here, thousands of lives. He must overcome his needs and do what is required to resolve his past mistakes. Holly, she just wants to stay under the radar, finish her code and marry her boring boyfriend. It was all going so well until somebody tried to kill her. Then the betrayals just kept coming. The two learn about each other and face many dangers.
Like the series not this one character

Overall, this was pretty middle of the road for me.

While the idea on Cade finding his mate and her being someone he couldn't actually have (he thought), had potential, I feel like this spent far too much time with him going "I messed up last time so I have to turn her over and even though she's mine I'm going to do it" and there wasn't really enough struggle(?) for him to figure out what to do. Why his end plan wasn't his plan from the moment he realized Holly was his fated mate doesn't make sense for what we know of his character. Even if he was wrapped up in his guilt over losing Rothkalina, I just feel like he should have been focused on finding a way around actually turning her over before he came up with his plan.

Holly was decent, but I felt like her resistance to Cade was there just until it wasn't. There was a little development and her going "I wonder?" but it felt like she went from "I'm only doing this because you were right that I want experience" to "I'm doing this because I want YOU really fast. It also felt like her OCD kind of disappeared for a while in the middle/last 1/3 of the book because it wasn't relevant(?). There were a handful of comments referencing it...things like Cade making sure all her food was prepackaged or how he'd open all her drinks without touching the rim, but up until Nix took her to the house, where she reveled in all the 3s and multiples of, it just seemed like it was pushed to the background when it had been so present earlier in the book. I guess that could be partially due to trying to show her Valkyrie/Fury nature taking over (or having been the "problem" all along) but I feel like we needed a little something to explain rather than just going with it.

This is nothing against the content of the book itself, but this edition had something happen during printing and it seemed like the printing was duplicated but it was duplicated slightly off so several pages looked blurry. Made it very difficult for me, personally, to read because if I did it for too long, I'd either start skimming to get past it or I'd get a headache. Made it difficult to fully enjoy things.

I had a great time. I loved Holly and Cadeon. Are they the model for what you absolutely should not want in a relationship? Big time. Doesn't change anything. Dare I say it just makes them better.

We've got a quest, we've got assassins, we've got a road trip. Perceived betrayal. Actual betrayal. Immaculate conception. Intentional fucking to create the new Jesus. He might be evil.

What else can you possibly want? It's all coming together in this book, and I'm so hyped for the escalation to continue.

The end was rough, so I'm hoping the next one brings it together rip

I love Kresley Cole's books! The "Immortals After Dark" series is one of my favourites. I've read most of the books several times. If you haven't read them, I highly recommend them.

I've read this book a couple of times, but yesterday I listened to the audiobook. I loved it!
