This was the first Nicholas Sparks book I ever read. It certainly made an impression on me and I remember feeling surprised when the plot did not turn out how I thought it would. The idea of the story is a little unrealistic but it also plays at the lines of realistic with the possibility of chance. That tiny possibility that it COULD happen. Thinking back now, this is indeed intriguing and poses a big challenge for the story's couple.

My feminist heart cries. This is just an awful romance novel, and the heroine is an idiot, and don't think you'll like this just because you liked the movie The Notebook.

*Mild spoilers I guess*

It of course had great moments and even made me cry but some things were a bit too unrealistic, especially their relationship. I really didn't like their relationship; it was too rushed. I am sure if they had gotten time to get to know each other, it wouldn't have worked out anyway. I didn't like Garrett much because one moment he's wondering about leaving everything, the other moment he wants everything. He seemed a bit selfish and stubborn too. Lastly, I believe if Theresa wouldn't have been pretty, this whole book wouldn't have existed in the first place.
