Struggling with a rating. I found the book dreadfully boring, and I struggled to finish it. Then in the last 100ish pages it took a turn for the better but I didn’t expect the twist at the end, which was heartbreaking. then the ending gutted me. Not Nicholas Sparks’ best writing but also one of his first books.

Not my favorite Sparks novel, but still a pleasant and easy read overall. I did enjoy learning that Sparks' inspiration came from a piece of his father's personal story.

I like Nicholas Sparks' books. I've read many of them. They're clean, with a bit of (sometimes a lot of) schmaltz, and fairly predictable. Yet each one is just different enough to keep them interesting, and generally just enough schmaltz to make you go "aww" instead of "Ugh". You know what you're getting when you crack open a Nicholas Sparks novel, and I like that.
This is one of his earlier books (I think the second book he has written). The plot felt a little too cheesy for me, but it was okay. What got me was that it's hammered into us over and over that Garrett is a widower who lost his beloved wife and hasn't even looked at a woman in three years, that he's still madly in love with his wife, etc. Yet, he meets Theresa and within a week is saying he thinks he loves her! On their second date, they kiss for the first time and it says "they had both waited too long for this moment". Really?? You just met each other two days ago!
The bedroom scenes were too descriptive for my taste....if I wanted that, I'd pick up a Harlequin romance.
And lastly, that ending. I rage-quit the book when I had about 20 pages left, and only finished it a day and a half later. I understand why it's written like that, and the message that's being conveyed but it made me feel like I invested in this couple for nothing and honestly made me wonder what the point of reading this book was. However, I hear that a good author (like good art) makes you feel something. So, mission accomplished Mr. Sparks. I can't decide if I enjoyed this book or not but it was an experience and I will still keep reading your books.

I got to the end of chapter 6, the two main characters have met. So I decided to stop there.
This is so badly written. There's lots of unnecessary detail that doesn't advance plot or character, it's tedious to read.

I normally enjoy Sparks novels, but I couldn't connect to this one the way I had done with "Dear John" and "The Longest Ride." The build up took longer than needed. I did enjoy Theresa's character, especially her intuition.

Made tears go down my face I like it a lot. If my library teacher read this book it might get banned but still.
