I got the feeling from the first book that it was only the beginning, and this instalment proved me right! Now that we’re in the swing of things, it’s time to watch the dominoes fall in a thrilling and tense mystery that has left me on tender hooks reaching for the next story.

hello, yes, I am officially in love with this world !!

Dabos’ imagination is magnificent, there’s no other way to describe it. I loved how the story unfolded in this book, and was genuinely surprised by some of the plot twists.

I picked these books up not really knowing what to expect and have come to like the universe and characters so much already. ophelia is a witty and clever bumpkin, it’s a joy to follow the story through her pov; and while thorn is (unnecessary) aloof and straight up rude lots of times, there’s also a soft side to him and ! they are cute 🙃

picking up volume three asap!

A really fun read and the rare step up from the first in the series, in my opinion. I think that we get some much needed insight into the main characters and they are developed emotionally in interesting ways. The broader mystery I think is a weak point. Ophelia at times feels too much on the periphery of things, but we get some hints in this book, particularly at the end, as to how critical Ophelia is to the plot. I am intrigued to read more and see how the story develops from where things left off here.

Wow this is becoming quite bizarrely interesting. I'm not even sure I really understood what was going on. But what I do know is that I'm really interested in knowing what happens next.

To be honest, the only reason I continued on reading was because I was curious. Curious about the enigmatic Thorn (still am), curious about Ophelia's role in all this 'conspiracy' (to be honest I'm still wondering what her role really is because so far, I'm not impressed yet).

The vibe is still very Studio Ghibli-ish, which I love. Still really loving the writing. It flows really well and there wasn't a lot of idle scenes because something is always happening.

4 stars ✨
