My favorite Louise Penny so far. I enjoyed the change from Three Pines and how this novel felt more insular. I was able to keep track of everything - and everyone - much more efficiently during this story and I was guessing the murderer up until the very end. One thing I didn't love is how Penny goes out of her way to withhold information from the reader that might help us solve the mystery. Even in the ending, climactic scene she refers to the murderer as "the murderer" rather than by their name for multiple pages which I found frustrating.

I loved this trip away from Three Pines, though still with a good bit of familiar characters. Same warmth. I enjoyed this mystery as well. It kept me guessing.

This is one of those series where you become
more invested and more in love with every character, even as you get to know their flaws. So glad I finally started it!
